Nokia E71 is official.

As of yesterday, the E71 has officially been announced by Nokia. While being successor to the E61i, the best phone I have ever owned, would make it worthy enough to be a great phone. Nokia have sealed the deal by throwing in longer battery life, 3.2mp (AutoFocus) camera, HSDPA, a faster processor in a package much slimmer than any previous Nokia offerings. [Link]
While the apple fanboys will be fumbling about trying to find a unlocked 3G iphone, you can catch the E71 at your local reseller next month for a little over 130KD. (It also comes in white/stainless)

I’m an “Apple fan boy” and I would seriously consider this instead of an iPhone. But the Blackberry Bold is coming soon too…

Iphone 3G i have the Original iphone and i am getting The New 3G from spain this summer =D cant wait Nokia No NO hate them
11. sfsa78 | June 18th, 2008 at 6:09 am
you can buy exactly two new 3g iPhones for the price of this nokia monstrosity.
12. K.theKuwaiti | June 18th, 2008 at 7:55 am
sfsa78:
That price you mentioned is for the ’subsidized’ iPhone 3g, which forces the user into a 2 year plan. The unsubsidized iphone will cost a more realistic 205/235 KWD without a plan (two E71s for the price of one iPhone 3g).

hmm they shrunk the screen size to 2.4” but its okie…
its thinner :P
But i think i will like the SE P5? better :D

This is another phone I’m considering besides the iPhone. I love all the crazy features the iPhone has and the fact that it’s untouchable when it comes to media, but I fear that the novelty of having one will quickly wear out as I grow tired of the touch screen with it’s lack of tactile feedback. The iPhone just looks like it could turn out to be impractical after I get over how cool it is. On the other hand, I know how reliable a Nokia phone can be since I’ve stuck with mine for 4 years, and I like the no bs user interface. But then again, the iPhone does have the best browser on a phone…

There is no arguing that the media and browser features of the iPhone are amazing .. However, the actual phone system leave much to be desired, that’s why I picked up an iPod touch to go along with my E61i. ;)
16. Monotheist | June 18th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Hey that’s not a bad idea :D. I’ll have to try both phones before I make my final decision though. Looking forward to your review.

I’m really looking forward to get this phone, but my biggest fear is to face the same problems that i face with my E61i :
1-i always get the no enough memory thing when ever i’m surfing the net.
2-when ever i use my phone as a modem via bluetooth with my mac, it disconnects every 5 to 10 minutes : s and i guess the problem is with the bluetooth!
3-it takes longer to open a msg or an application than other mobiles although my memory is not full at all.
4-last but not least it freezes some times.

K…
The iphone is only available subsidised.. you cant officially get any iphone without the line due to apple’s contracts with mobile companies. They have now moved to 70 countries now… so expect to pick one up for no more than KD90 in kuwaiti resellers soon.
Remember iphones aren’t officialy released in our area in the same way itunes is not officially available in area. However, there will be an official release of it in qatar, jordan, egpyt and uae.

Those issues should be sorted out with the faster processor and more memory .. whenever my phone feels sluggish, I clean out the old messages.
sfsa78:
Vodafone Italy has set an out-of-contract price for the iPhone 3G at 499/€569 ($773/$881) for the 8GB/16GB models
20. Abdullah | June 18th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Apple iphone = NO MMS, bad texting, No Arabic, can’t send a song or a video. Cant a mp3 file as ring tone. No local provider. it cant be loacked back easily. and more…..
its basically not supported in our region. so Why use it because finger with it!?
21. sfsa78 | June 18th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Last time I checked vodafone was a cellular company that has a contract with apple,, its not a shop. They can put a price tag of $10,000 , it will still be availabe thru resellers at less than kd90 and will be hacked to work with any sim like last iPhone.

sfsa78:
Have you been following any of the iPhone news? Apple is forcing its customers to activate their phones in the store. The fact of the matter is that you will not be able to get an iPhone anywhere near the 199$ price unless you pair it to a two year data plan with the mobile company. The only way you are going to see a iPhone 3G for sale in Kuwait is if its a non-subsidized or activated (with a broken contract) .. either option is still $$.
And even if you do spend 200+ KD for an iPhone, the biggest hype around the iPhone are the apps. Which won’t even work on our non-iphone carrier.
23. sfsa78 | June 18th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Forcing people?? Your sources don’t sound kosha. Its sounds a bit off
As for the apps… at the moment am down loading laods of apps and they are working perfect here in kuwait… last night i downloaded “Fring” thru their installer sources, it’s an app that allows u to call using Skype right in your iphone… mako makarana between iphones and nokias. (i dont know who told you the apps have anything to do with the carrier)
I still tell u that you’ll be able to get them at no more than KD90 by next month. no doubt.

sfsa78:
My source is AT&T’s President of National Distribution Glenn Lurie .. Who has explicitly said that there will be no in-home activation for iPhone 3G—it does require a two-year contract, and it will have to be activated in store.
The ‘installer sources’ you used to install fring isn’t an Apple product (its installed as part of the jailbreak/unlock). As it isn’t allowed by Apple .. chances are it will not even work on the iPhone 3G.
The apps I am referring to are the ones announced in WWDC, along with the App Store and 2.0 software. They require (among other things) support from your telecom provider to push updates/info … People with unlocked iPhone’s will not have access to the real capabilities and services.
25. Bo-Bader | June 19th, 2008 at 8:40 am
The best thing about Nokia phones are their durability and phone side features and reception.
sfsa78:
As K. said, the next 3G iPhone will not be sold online and you won’t be able to buy one in any Apple store without in-store activation and signing 2 years contracts with AT&T (in the US). In other parts of the world and depending on carriers, you can probably buy an iPhone without a contract but it will be for more than $600 depending on carriers. I really don’t think you will ever see a 3G iPhone for less than 300 KD in Kuwait (if you can find any) until next year or until they announce an official carrier in Kuwait.
FYI, we are talking about the new 3G iPhone which will be released July 11th in 20 countries. All of what I said above are the official Apple and other carriers press releases.

K.
I have heard that the new 3G iPhone cannot be jailbroken or unlocked. The rumors said that the closed the holes hackers used. However, they are rumors and hackers will probably find another way.
I am in the process of selling my iPhone on ebay and the funny thing is that used iPhones are selling for $350+. Almost the same price as new ones LOL
27. K.theKuwaiti | June 19th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Bo-Bader:
They said that about the last iPhone .. and we all know what happened. Apple has realized that its easier to prevent people from getting an iPhone than to stop unlocking/jail-breaking.
28. Bo-Bader | June 19th, 2008 at 9:45 am
K.:
I agree, Apple tried to change but failed. They realized that the cell phone market is whole different game. I guess AT&T was more upset about the unlocked iPhone market than Apple because they were the one losing more revenues.
29. Mark | June 19th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
I am not a Nokia fan but I love the E61i, its extremely practical and has a ton of cool apps for it. I personally don’t like the iPhone for a number of reasons.
1) crappy keyboard
2) crappy battery life
3) crappy phone features
4) can’t send or receive files by bluetooth
5) others i forgot what they were
Most of the stuff I don’t like about the E61i no longer exist in the E71
30. Abdullah | July 4th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Mark:
do you know the exact date of release for the E71? and will you do a review if you purchase one eventually?
