Current DSL Prices.

Here is an updated list of current DSL pricing:

Internet Prices

As I have said in the past; I wouldn’t suggest signing up with United Networks or FastTelco due to their incapability to deliver promised speed, provide sufficient support or maintain a stable network.

The most enticing ‘offer’ (we still pay too much) is the 4mb connection from Qualitynet at 900KD. As you would be looking at a download speed of roughly 400+ KBPS. Although, I am not sure if most telephone lines are capable of handling that speed. Come to think of it, ISPs could offer a 1000MB connection knowing that your telephone line will tap out at 3MB.

With Info-Connect 2008 only two months away, I would suggest extending your subscription until you can make use of the offers there.

The 4 MB Does look inticing! I’m hoping the line supports that speed! It would be fantastic! At least things are improving!

    i’m switching to quality TODAY

The problem resides here in limiting download/upload speeds. What are the policies of each ISP regarding P2P and bandwidth consumption, and how do they deal with such issues? I think that is very important.

I know for a fact that Zajil/Qualitynet do not cap downloads or shape bandwidth. And if they do, you can enable transport encryption to mask the packets.

thank you so much! this is so useful! :)

i’ve got Qualitynet’s 512k DSL connection, and i don’t recommend them at all. it takes ages to get technical support (sometimes you’re on hold for 8-10 minutes).

i also lose the connection quite often, with no reason. it’s not the router, it’s something with the connection. if Zajil made a better offer, i might switch sooner than later.

I got UN and can’t wait till my subsciption is over so that I can switch to Quality net. Im paying 15KD a month and it is always disconnecting. The first 3 months were perfect but since then, it sucks.

I recently got Qnet on reduced rates ..Well their promotion for me was the 256k for 11.5KD with a free wireless router.

I guess I didnt make a bad choice although I could have gone for the 512k.

What I found interesting was the FTH (Fiber to Home) that theyr doing.

    Has anyone got it yet?

    Enigma:
These are very recent prices .. roughly a week old

    Streetjab:
FTH is currently only available in certain areas (South Surra).

The Qualitynet website mentioned 250KD for yearly 512k. Am I missing something here?

    Musa’ad Haider:
Possibly: Check out http://www.myqstore.com/ its 200kd there.

I have read your concerns regarding United Networks and it is surprising that you have such a bad impression .Is it possible to talk to you and try to resolve these issues? Looking forward to your response

    Mohammed

If someone gets in touch with Mohammed and gets his/her issues resolved, please do post here. I am planning to subscribe DSL when I visit Kuwait this month and would like to know if United Networks have improved their service or not.

I pay 120KD a year for a 6MB! Ofcourse im not living in kuwait!

  24. 24. Bo-Bader | December 14th, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Man.. I have 10 Mb connection and I am not paying penny. The thing is that higher speed are only useful for downloading and internet sharing. I think anything above 512K is not very useful in video calls, web surfing, and regular day to day use. However, it is sweet to download a 100Mb file in less than a minute ;)

has anyone noticed that the main issue in kuwait as relates to internet speeds seems to be the data request and latency rather than the actual throughput?

to clarify to anyone that does not understand: there’s a very noticeable lag between when you send the request (enter a URL) and start receiving the data.

im suspecting - and please feel free to chime in - that it may be kuwait’s proxy based filtering that is causing this problem.

i could spend some time fiddling to see what exactly it was by inspecting the packets and lags but again what use would it be if i can’t change it.

just thought it may be useful to those that were wondering and thinking they might be going crazy.

  26. 26. K.theKuwaiti | December 30th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

    hamad:
The latency issue is due to the teleglobe connection and the dsl links.
On a fiber connection I have a 50ms ping to Riyadh .. which then jumps to 150ms when it hits London (due to the distance).

  27. 27. hamad | January 1st, 2008 at 10:47 pm

thanks for the feedback K. so given that you have the problem, what would a possible solution be for ISPs to improve this area of the service because i find it often to be a pain and suspect many others do.

on a related note, wataniya’s internet services - namely wnet - have come to a crawl in the past couple of weeks. has anyone else noticed this?

  28. 28. K.theKuwaiti | January 1st, 2008 at 10:55 pm

    Hamad:
Lower latency is easier said than done:

    1. Better equipment
    2. Better connections

At the end of the day there is only so much you can do; as we are living quite far away. My suggestion to Kuwaiti ISPs is to raise the bandwidth cap for transfers within Kuwait … people downloading torrents would look for local sources for speed and other would have faster connection for surfing/gaming.
