Aperture is a complete joke and Apple should get their name off of this product as soon as possible.
Brand new iMac 24 with all the bells and whistles, dedicated completely to photography.
Aside from the myriad of interface issues (you seriously need a roadmap to the program to do anything basic with it) Aperture won't talk to my printer at all.
Not even a little bit.
So, I just got my Nikon D2x, a stack of 8x10 frames and extra ink for my semi-high end Epson photo printer and this bunk ass software is STONEWALLING me!
And has anyone else noticed that Apple is apparently hiring ex-microsoft tech support people to man the phones?
Nothing but inbreeders to talk to over there and nobody can tell me when they'll have this printer bug fixed. I'm returning this crap software and getting photoshop at the education discount.
Should have known a $200 program wasn't going to cut it.

[...] The photography software Adobe Lightroom beta is out and I downloaded and played around with it for a bit now and it seems cool. The installation file is like only 4MB and the system requirements needed to run are very acceptable. Unlike Aperture, Adobe Lightroom not only runs on my G5 at work but will also run on my older G4 at home. Seems like Adobe really wants to kick Apple’s ass. [Link] [...]

Mahmood I know you werent being sarcastic, you were just hoping (like me) that a software designed by Apple would work on a new Mac.

I use iphoto to organize my family photos. For everything else I use photoshop.

I wasn't being sarcastic by the way, I was looking forward to at least try it on my macmini as I am sick of iPhoto and iView. Was looking forward to Aperature to see if it would be an improvement on either.

Well, Quake 3 is a classic. ;-)

Try running Quake 4 on that thing. You'd have to use 640x480, lowest everything, otherwise it'd lag.

Mark, a Geforce FX 5200 Ultra is a real crap card. I should know, I use it. Games work great in the lowest resolution and effects, I highly recommend you upgrade.

Been reading your blog a while now. Even inspired me to start my own 365 project. Anyway, you can over ride the Aperture req. Here's a link to the steps :

The card that came with the mac is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (8X AGP)

Its not a high end card but it came in a high end machine. You would expect Apple to take that into consideration when designing a software.

Aperture should be able to run on regular vga cards although it could run with some of the features off for example. Apple can't expect everyone to go out and purchase a 500$ vga card to go with the 500$ software. People could just get Photoshop which has more features and advantages and a MUCH MUCH lower system requirements.

Tata the problem is you don't know a lot about macs. If a pro high end machine thats 1 year old can't run an apple software it means that the people who made the software are idiots.

This is beside the fact that Apreture hasn't been getting positive reviews, I am talking about the idea in general that when you purchase a new high mac you expect it to run high end software.

Proffesional photographers who take their work seriously would purchase Adobe Photoshop which has more features and capabilities for only $150 more.
