  iPhoto 09 will do the compression for you and even has built-in export to facebook, flickr, email and mobile me.

  I used it recently to test upload some pics to flickr and it worked very well.</description>

Also, been finding ways to shrink image sizes of what I want to upload without loosing much of the quality. No luck, yet.</description>
