I hope this is a freaking joke! At least the previous version of the 7 were ground breaking design that many car companies followed. This new 7 looks like it was conceive at their Japanese design studios. Nothing wrong with that but, BMW as an independent company that never follows has gone on the Japanese foot steps. This looks like a Lexus LS. They've taken out the gear shifter out of the steering wheel, that was one of the best features about this car. Clearly the new 7 is a copy of something that is is a copy of a great line of cars that BMW used to be. I had a '04 7, now a have '08 7. This are great looking amassing cars. Going by this pictures I'll never get this car. This is a boring car with no sense of identity or personality, blaaah. Where are the cojones of that grown breaking company BMW used to be...

Even the exhaust's the same as the Lexus. The previous models' exhaust pipes were hidden.

Better than previous models, truth is though that Audi currently has the best designs (between german cars: mercedes, BMW, Audi).

it's definitely an evolution of the existing design and not a completely new language. it has that line that's on the side of all the new bmw designs, running from front to end - everything below that line seems to be bloated, perhaps giving the design a more substantial base (and implied massiveness, perhaps justifying the bloated price tag). the new taillights seem a bit big, but i think don't think they're disproportional.
when viewing the car from the side, though, i notice that the mass above that line (the cabin) seems to be pushed back a bit too far. maybe it gives a more sporty appearance, but it just seems to be a bit awkward when viewing from the front corners.
all in all, i think it's a good move forward. the design language seems more mature and less maverick-ish than the previous one.
