An Accord?? I thought those Saudis were rich. Though I’ll give the owner ironic points for the “it’s not your mother’s Accord” factor.

The song in the video actually has the lyrics “I ain’t stupid” !!!

Speaking of irony, the car is practically a parody of the “pimping” scene, bonus ironic points for probably not meaning to be. I mean that pimping has become so synonymous with gull-wing doors that anyone can just buy the kits to do it. So now you have to do “better” (hint: this is not the way).

I expected it to be so over the top that in the picture on the blog, I thought the white wall top-left was something like the roof being motorized.

I get the fact that in the owner’s bid to out-pimp others he makes the back doors tilt to look like wings, and then he makes a video comparing it to a plane. But really, airplane wings are pretty, car doors are ugly. They do look vaguely shaped like an airfoil, he could’ve gotten real admiration if he reshaped them to actually work like wings (and be structural at high speeds) and bonus if he could do some gliding. But no.

Modifying the doors to operate in a non-standard way seems like it would just make people injure themselves trying to get in. In other words, while most pimping is over-the-top but still functional, this is a regression in usability.

I guess this guy gets some credit for motorizing the whole thing (assuming that was his original idea), but spinning doors just look useless. If he wanted to make a cool video, he should have hired a choreographer or a videographer who could see the potential. You know, something classy where it opens to let a lady get in and then spins around to knock out a mugger/carjacker (corny, I know), or at least something a bit more synchronized (with lasers being “aimed” by reflecting off the doors, for example).

I was a programmer in a past life, so I wondered if there was some sort of mechanism preventing the door from being closed while at the wrong angle, in other words, something to prevent stupid users from breaking it.

I can’t believe I could write a whole page about this.
