The Redesign
I finally managed to finish working on the new redesigned template and I just activated it. I took all your feedback into consideration and I tried my best not to change the design that much as you can see. Although the template looks similar to the older one under the hood its completely new. The coding is much cleaner and everything should look better and work faster. There might be some minor kinks here and there which I will find and fix in the next few days. Overall I am pretty excited about the face lift, I think it looks much better than the older one and is less cluttered and cleaner. While I was at it I also upgraded to the latest Wordpress and I am now running 2.3.
The theme I am using is called Grid Focus by 5thiryone but it’s been heavily modified by me.

Well maybe now that the content is in, it looks a bit better than when you were working on it.

it looks completely different then when I was working on it. I didn’t have the black background, The buttons under the header where in black and just one piece. The commenting section was completely redone. The middle column now has grey background. I added the related entrines and cleaned it up visually and a whole bunch of other minor stuff.
here is how it looked

Yea that’s true, I guess with the black it really popped out and turned out to be better than we all saw in the redesigning process.
Good job nonetheless.. :)

looks great…did u try ‘justifying’ the text blocks? (just a suggestion)…the white on black bg worked out great!

You know what’s funny for Forums it says ‘discuss freely’ but we can’t really discuss freely eh? ;)
11. Rayboy | October 13th, 2007 at 9:31 am

14. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 10:37 am
Mo Hat I know I thought about changing freely to something else lol
Rayboy I don’t know if thats possible to do, will check on it
rv: I had the text justified in the previous design, don’t know if I want to do it here also. Will give it a try later and see if i prefer it justified

A quick question, does the light grey show on your computers? I am using it for the middle column and for the comment replies. It shows on my macbook but i just got on from my desktop computer and the light grey barely shows. I dont know if its cuz my monitor there is fucked up or my macbook display settings are wrong.
16. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 11:42 am
Nevermind I think i fixed it. I made the light grey a tint darker.
17. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 11:44 am
Also just removed the grey box, no grey box alternating in the comments. Looks cleaner this way. And made the links in the comment magenta instead of black. Hard refresh everyone.

Removing the Alternate Grey Box is a good thing. the grey title bg displays fine on my Laptop …

This is really good, and I like what you have done with it! Its the same sense but new feeling! Well done buddy!
20. Marzouq | October 13th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Also did the pink get brighter or is it just me! hahaha
21. Marzouq | October 13th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
One thing you need to add that you had before, up top you could go from post to post without having to go to the main page, its a click left or right to go one up or down. So I recommend you put that back up!
22. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
oops yeah i just noticed i left that out
23. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 3:28 pm

25. Mo Hat | October 13th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
Actually now it is easier on the eyes with the brightness, the grey tint helped a lot, congrats.

I like the redesign, its sharp, but the non - CAPS font (where HOME, REVIEWS, FORUM etc is listed) seems lightweight, maybe you can change the font or increase the size.. Overall, its excellent tho

gr8 work Mark, one thing , the Hyperlinks should be in a different color. the black makes the links like a normal text.
28. Mark | October 13th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
what hyperlinks? All hyperlinks are in Magenta not black.
29. dogbertq8 | October 13th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
The menu bar at the top is really hard to read (at least on my laptop). I think it’s the font that’s used. The subtext (frontpage, discuss freely) is definitely too small.
Other than that, refreshing change.

this is how i am seeing it

I noticed IE users get a thicker white bar between the header and tabs…

IE users sux, http://www.getfirefox.com
32. Soul | October 14th, 2007 at 3:03 am
Did you notice the flicker of the top menu item when you hover you mouse pointer between two tabs (do it slowly) ?

33. Soul | October 14th, 2007 at 3:05 am
It happens with firefox (v2.0.0.7)
IE 7 works ok.

34. Soul | October 14th, 2007 at 3:10 am
Suggestion:
Remove “overflow:auto” for #content, defined for the respective DIV.
It should work.
The bug of firefox from ages has still not been fixed.

magenta eh? lol…
36. TanGo | October 14th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
I think you have narrowed the black spaces left and right which is good, but the [comments] area in the older version was neater,, all in all you’ve done well,,,
37. Mark | October 14th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
The comments area here and in the older version are nearly exactly the same. All i did in the new version was place a thin box outline around every comment and made the comment number not bold.

When I first saw the new design of your blog yesterday, I immediately recognized as the same as my blogs. I’m glad that you modified it to look different than my blogs.
It looks very nice on yours

Mark: I’m on FF2.0.0.7 on 1280×1024 on a dell laptop. i just realized it’s looking bad because of the really shitty quality of my laptop display. In fact, I just docked my laptop and it appears fine on my monitor.
So since most of your viewers probably don’t view 248am.com on crappy dell laptops, you’re probably ok :)
40. dogbertq8 | October 15th, 2007 at 9:48 am
As an aside, I was wondering how to show you the ‘bad quality’ display using a screencapture or something but that’ll obviously not work since you don’t have my crappy display.
Reminds me of this really funny thing I used to think about: TV ads that try to highlight picture clarity/quality obviously won’t work because chances are that if you’re the target audience, then u’re seeing the ad on a TV with lower display quality!
