Racist Commercial?
This commercial was in the news yesterday (I think MBC) and they were talking about how racist it was towards people from the Gulf. I just watched it now and I actually think its pretty funny. Sure they are stereotyping but thats what makes it funny. The commercial is about this Sheikh who spots a fuel efficient Nissan Tiida and goes ballistic on it. What do you think? [YouTube]

it wasn’t exactly racist, more stereotypical, cause it’s sorta putting things in prespective. the sheikh is relying on majorly crude oil money.

Its funny and very true… Thanks to cars like this and other alternative energy technologies, the Arabs will be drinking their oil in the not so distant future. Also it was an Israeli commercial (it might appear Russian, but that was Yiddish at first and Hebrew at the end), therefore it should come as no real surprise that they don’t love the arabs. Heck, arabs don’t even like arabs. Let me know what that oil tastes like :)

There is nothing really creative about the commercial and nothing special about the Tida.Consumtion is average and mainly a standard among small/medium cars at 13km/l. I would understand if this was a Hybrid, then the commercial would have made more sense. Its just a cheap commercial raising anti arabs sentiments as most european still believe that the price of a liter of 2$ at the pumps is dictated by the arab sheikhs, where in fact, its their own government thats ripping them off.

We used to have a TV prog called “spitting image” that took the piss out of our nation and the people in it (along with the rest of the world, but mainly us) and I thought it was hilarious. People pull the racist card too quickly IMHO

The European governments are taxing oil heavily, not ripping off its people. If you really wanna talk about governments ripping off their people then ask yourself this: The budgets of most GCC countries set the price of a barrel at $35-$50, The real price of a barrel is around $150. Where does the difference go? Need further convincing, try to find a single contract between an oil company and any GCC government. You’ll never find one, they do exist, but are completely secret so as to not divulge how much the government gets paid per barrel. You tell me, who’s getting ripped off here. Ignorance truly is bliss ::grin::

It’s not an Israeli ad. It’s a russian ad from a russian channel broadcasted to the middle east, hence the hebrew writing since there’s a significant number of russian jews living in israel.

Yeah, Russia has plenty of oil and I think it has the largest reserve in areas where no human being left a footstep.
They have limos and very fancy cars too.
But, the advertisement is just stereotyping Arabs.
The whole concept of the advertisement in mentioned in the end. It says “The car saves so much fuel that even oil barons hate it”
