Pimp My Eiffel Tower

For the Eiffel Tower’s upcoming 120th Anniversary, a new extended observation tower will be added to the top floor. It seems a design competition was held a while back and the architecture group Serero won with the design above. I think it looks pretty cool, very futuristic and alien like. [Link]

I have mixed feelings about it, I’m not sure if I like it or hate it. No additions should be added to such an iconic and historic structure.

The French will probably protest about it but I think it will eventually be built. Like the lovely I. M. Pei pyramid at the Louvre museum which the French hate till this day.

I don’t like it at all!
It looks alieny, and very scary
Doesn’t give the romantic feeling of Paris anymore :/

if it’s removable makes you think will it fall down with people standing on it? maybe an event to look forward to in 2009…

I really hope they do build it. The french have this architectural design philosophy for decades. They consider themselves to be the world leaders in Modern Architecture because the movement actually started in France back in the 1600s, and they actually are. They are trying to keep it going on by “updating” their iconic structures that initiated the movement (starting with the Louvre entrance by I M Pei) and now the Eiffel tower.
Note here that Modern is refer to an architectural style and does not mean modern/new/now.
