Open Heart Surgery
I always thought cutting open a heart would be a cool experience.. well I tried it awhile ago and it isn’t. I just got Geo a lamb heart from Sultan Center to have with his dinner and its hard to explain how cutting open a heart feels. Its not smooth and silky like regular meat, its more plasticky and squijee (if there is such a word). When you slice up a heart it makes this squish sound, its really not a pleasent experience. Anyway Geo loved it and I think its his new favorite thing.

The first time I opened a heart was 4 years ago to a sheeps heart as well. It is an intresting muscle that has it’s own ability to pump without any control from the brain. You can switch it off by cooling and by heating it turns on again. Awesome organ :)

I disected a heart last year , smells really bad and looks even worst . I had fun squeezing my finger in and out of the aorta though (I was wearing latex gloves)

my friends in egypt took me to jam3at al qahira (cairo Uni) while I was on vacation last winter in the middle east. some of my HS friends are doing medicine there.
They pull out frozen bodies in the mashra7a there, and they work on the dead bodies.
bodies belong to the universities, they bought the dead corpses in egypt to have medicine students work on em.
thats fuckin weird

Kuwait univ buys the corps from outside because I think it is not allowed to cut open Muslim bodies . I am not sure about that though :/

I dissected a heart last year, too. It’s really much tougher than you expect it to be. Wait until you dissect an eye, those suckers are really hard to dissect properly, they’re difficult to cut open! Oh, and there’s a very interesting black liquid inside it.. and the lens is very nice, too…

didnt u dissect stuff in biology in high school? in university?
we used to dissect stuff all the time… most memorables were heart, frog, cat.

Heart kebabs are freaking awesome.
Speaking of medicine, I’ve read that doctors successfuly performed a closed heart operation, which means no more cracking open the ribs in the future.(correct me if I’m wrong on this info)

lol , I think I’ll pass ;)

I did it in Biology lab,
it’s not soft because it’s basically a muscle…you know. This thing is responsible for pumping blood ALL over the body, and to lungs, so it needs a good ‘push’ and the heart is specialized to do it this way.
LOL, I suck at circulatory systems !

lol omar… its right though… the heart is really a muscle (or surrounded by muscle… cant remember)
i remember dissecting an eye… i think it was a cow’s eye… it was cool as well.
now here is a question… i think its pretty fun and interesting to dissect all this stuff (my opinion) but would u be capable of doing it on a live person? ya3ni would u consider being a surgeon? i personally cannot

As a pharmacy student, I had to dissect many things (rats, frogs, rabbits, etc.) but working on human body is still the worst. Heart is a special kind of muscle as it does not get fatigue as other muscles in the body. BTW, I had an open-heart surgery about three years ago, and I have to say that getting back to normal after such surgery is an unpleasant experience.
