The phone came officially unlocked. I didn’t have to put in a request to have them unlocked. These units should have a small white sticker on the box to mark them as the unlocked ones since they also help customers who want to activate with an australian carrier.

I was able to buy 4 iPhones. This was just this month. Each customer is limited 2 iPhones for outright purchase. I got my husband to buy 2 on his credit card. Only credit card payments are accepted for outright iPhone purchases, and one charge at a time.

So if you’re looking for officially unlocked iPhones, either buy a couple of units if you visit Australia or Hong Kong. Make sure you go to the Apple Store, not a carrier or reseller since they charge to unlock it. It also helps if you know someone who lives on those countries so you save on airfare. I was in Australia to watch a musical, but took advantage of the time there to buy the iPhones. No problems since.

It’s a lot cheaper than buying from eBay since those sellers usually get their units from these countries who already sell them unlocked! With eBay, you have to pay the sellers’ profit too.
