Crazy Zip

crazy zip

Ok this post is a bit geeky but I just found it too unbelievable not to post. The site contains this crazy zip file thats only 42KB in size but when expanded uncompresses to 4.5 petabytes! [Link]

1 petabyte = 1000 terabyte

Wow thats amazing!!! 4.5 petabytes! How did the guy initially store the uncompressed file?

  3. Mo Hat says:

I think how it works is they’re dummy files, no actual space, just used to pad. A 1 byte dummy file could be modified to say it’s 10TB etc.

You can generate zip files that inflate as allocating zeroes or ones to the hard drive. It’s nothing special.

  5. dogbert says:

this is pretty simple to generate.

Basically, if you have 1 followed by 4.05323966 × 10^16 bits, that will be a 4.5TB file but it should take very little space to store the formula that the file is “1 followed by 4.05323966 × 10^16 bits”

its just a plain txt file with 1 character repeated over and over again. so when you zip it the compression algol reduces the size to almost nothing…

this is a trojan named Archbomb.zip

  8. Srofessor Pnape says:

The Zip File contains a Malware namely Multi:ArchiveBomb [Expl] .

If You’ve got Avast! Antivirus Installed on your PC,It will Abor the Download and Will not allow you to use it.

Open This FIle At Your Own Risks as a very famous program has called it a malware.
