Back from Jordan
I came back to Kuwait last night and I have to say I was pretty disappointed with Jordan. The country is very poor which I found very shocking since I was expecting it to be something of a combination of Lebanon and Kuwait. The King and Queen seem very sophisticated and down to earth which is why its even more confusing why things are the way they are there. The Jordanian people are extremely nice, reminded me a lot of the hospitality of Bahraini people. Things I missed and would like to try the next time I am there: the falafels at Hashem, the burger at Lebnani and the Blouzaat store.

Falafel & Hummus at downtown Amman’s Hashem are definitely the thing I miss most from that list. Great food.

yeah, same question from pugatory!!!!
I met lots of jordanians in my life 2 of them only were nice to me. the rest were very very rude.
its even written in the list of impossibilities, if you ever had that joke about arabs, what each arab can’t be.

jordanians and bahrainis - the friendliest arabs around. no pretentions whatsoever!

I won’t comment on Amman, I’m sure it has its hidden charms.. visible only to people who live there. Just like here I suppose…

I found Jordan very dry.. Amman a monotone city.. Its people as rude and blunt as us Kuwaitis. But their good falafel and zaatar are worth another visit.

Well I didn’t get to see much of Jordan, I just saw the two malls, City and Mecca, I went to the balad and the roman steps. I also went to the rich area where the diplomats live and I think thats about it. Oh and I went to the area shaheen or something like that where you have all the restaurants, Global, NBK and the Canadian embassy.
But from what I saw and experienced the people WERE very friendly and helpful.

Wow I have been to a fair # of countries and Jordan is #1 in my book. Its so diverse - one day I’m standing under an amazing waterfall and then enjoying the dead sea. Then I’m camping in Wadi Rum under the stars and riding camels. Then I was visiting Roman Ruins. Then desert castles, then normal castles. Not to mention all the biblical sites. Holy sites for Christians and Muslims alike. (Moses - Musa etc). Then they had a Grand Canyon only 2nd in size to the Grand Canyon in the USA. There is a terrific restaurant and museum there the Panaramic (sp). Then there were flowers and green fields and my girls stopped & played/ picked up sheep on the side of the road. I really could go on and on. Jordan is FANTASTIC!!!!!! Heck I forgot Petra! And Lawrence of Arabia! That tells you how fantastic it was! Plus my girls rode horses, donkeys and camels while we were there. You need to go back and enjoy the sites.
The food? How could you not mention THE best Kanaffa hands down anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe its Habbiba thats the really famous one in Amman. I’m sure I’m spelling this all wrong but you get the idea.
Jordan is WONDERFUL be sure to go back on a real vacation.

I’ve been to the Dead Sea and that was quite an experience, and I’m DYING to go to Petra someday

I never said Jordan was boring, dull or complained there was nothing to do. All I said was that I was surprised at how poor the country was .

But why would Jordan be anything like Kuwait? Kuwait is basically a tiny state with a small population (as in citizens) located on top of a huge oil reserve. Jordan has a mixed population from all over (East Jordanian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Shami, Circessian, Armenian etc…) trying to make the best out of very limited resources i.e. no oil, so its only natural that there would be some poverty in Jordan but then its not the kind of place you would go to to wallow in luxury but to enjoy the diversity and beauty of the country especially outside Amman.
