Arrival sign departs

I used to like the old Kuwait Airport since I grew up with it but like everything else in Kuwait its being modernized and not in a good way. The new airport is generic looking and doesn’t have the character of the original airport which was designed by one of the most significant architects of the 20th century, Kenzo Tange.

I was at the airport on Friday and noticed they’ve taken out the old retro looking arrival sign and replaced it with this colorful ugly LED panel. I used to really like the retro one and I wonder where it is at the moment, did they just trash it in the junk yard? Anyway if you want to check out old pictures of the Airport when it first opened like the first one in this post click [Here]
If you want to see pictures of other great architecture projects from the 70’s and 80’s check [Here]

keep that attitude up and one day you might become a minister here , government here love people who like to save money, and by charter in the old airport i assume you mean smelly halls, and dusty floors right?

Mark,
The first picture looks like the National Assembly and not the airport. You should inform them of this error.
Good luck

Dear me, thanks be to god you aint in charge. The current Kuwait Airport design is a dump when compared with Dubai or Qatar’s.
Tear the whole thing down and start again.
And for God’s sake Kuwait, will you spend some money and not try to save fils on everything you do. We want to be wow’ed.

I worked for the biggest Architecture & Engineering firm in Kuwait as a structural engineer. The truth is that most of the architects I worked with are copy cats. They copy pieces from magazines and book without understanding the concept. The only good building designs you see in Kuwait are done by sub contracting with US or British Architects. what pisses me off is that me and my fellow Kuwaiti friends who studied architect and engineering in the best universities in the US never given a chance to be creative. Our ideas are always killed by those close minded old school you know who.

As long as some arsehole doesnt impose PINK SIGNS at the new airport, then we can hope for the best – although I have a feeling our people here will cut corners and have zero quality control and maintenance on whatever gets built (hence the generator blackouts at Kuwait Airport etc)

Same here. Liked the old airport better! The new one looks so cluttered I don’t know why.
