Ask Jazeera Airways

Jazeera Airways

Yesterday I got an email from a reader of my blog who works at Jazeera Airways. He read some of the comments on the post 5KD to Bahrain and Dubai and noticed many people had questions about the airline. So, he has volunteered to answer any questions you put forward to him about the airlines. I will take all your questions which you can post below in the comments section and I then will forward it to him.

I will start by asking the first question: Does Jazeera Airways have any plans of expanding their flights to Europe and North America?

suggestion:when I select the fly from and fly to, the site should only show the dates on which you have flights to that destinations…you may check airarabia’s site.

    CyberRowdy:
Kuwaiti Banks (with payment gateways) charge a high-er amount when using Credit Cards. Knet fees are set by the KNET people .. the CreditCards carry a higher fee. Jazeera passes on the convenience of the card to its customers.

Ajazeera All the way, they Rule big time !

Aljazeera Airline is a discount Airliner, they make money by being airborn most of the time and not leaving their planes and staff on ground like Kuwait airways hehehe

  20. 20. Mark | October 5th, 2006 at 8:25 am

unless i get tickets to like europe or north american i am not interested lol

  21. 21. HS | October 5th, 2006 at 8:31 am

Can’t we just call them on 177 & ask! should get a quick reply :)

  22. 22. erzulie | October 5th, 2006 at 8:37 am

I think that they don’t fly to Europe or N.A. (for now) because it’s too expensive and they’re known for their cheap prices.

But maybe for Europe…I suppose that they can have a separate schedule for European flights (and not to N.A. because that can hike up the prices) with higher prices, but it would be something exclusive. I think they are marketing themselves to be the safest, cheapest, and most convenient airline in the Middle East. And it’s working.

  23. 23. CyberRowdy | October 5th, 2006 at 8:43 am

K, so you mean sultan center is accepting the loss when I buy a 2 KD item with c-card?
and knet fee? whots that? you mean the bank accepts the charge on behalf of us?

  24. 24. Menon | October 5th, 2006 at 9:11 am

Knet charges the companies 2% of whateva (KD 1 or even KD 500)…

Major retailers like Sultan center, they can charge as less as 0.5%…

  25. 25. Mark | October 5th, 2006 at 9:26 am

According to Knet who were a client of mine like 3 or 4 years ago, Knet does NOT take any money. Its a free service. Anyone who takes extra cash from you because you use Knet you should report it to them.

Knet is opened by the banks.

Visa on the other hand, they charge I believe 4% per transaction and thats why Jazeera Airways takes 1KD if you use Visa but don’t charge you a penny for using Knet.

  26. 26. Mark | October 5th, 2006 at 9:29 am

just called Knet up now to check and see if their system changed. Turns out it hasn’t, Knet still does not charge shops for Knet usage.

  27. 27. Cajie | October 5th, 2006 at 2:00 pm

    Mark,
Even though KNET is opened by the banks, it operates as a separate business entity – and they make their money by charging the banks a small fee for every transaction that goes through their system. It may be the 50 fils referred earlier in the thread.

  28. 28. Mark | October 5th, 2006 at 2:01 pm

nope they dont. not a single penny.

  29. 29. A380 Maniac | October 5th, 2006 at 5:50 pm

So when do Jazeera Airways officially adopt Kuwait Airways(minus its staff)as the orphan no one else would have??
Further and more, can we look forward to low cost flights to the holy cities- Mecca and Medina as well?

  30. 30. Cajetan Barretto | October 6th, 2006 at 4:23 pm

Someone’s got to pay the salaries of KNET staff, high-availabiltity servers, networks, infrastructure etc…
Either banks pay a flat fee or based on transaction volume. But someone’s paying.

I remember someone telling me that it is based on transaction volume, which makes sense since smaller banks would suffer if it was based on a flat fee.

I love Jazeera and I’m a huge fan. It’s the only airline that leaves 15 minutes AHEAD of schedule.. It’s happened to me 3 times to Dubai and yes my watch was working correctly.

I also love how easy it is to book. No wastas and all online

I doubt they would expand to Europe and North America since their whole business model is built on low cost short-haul flights. However, I would love them to add Istanbul to their route since getting there is such a pain in the ass from here!

My only issue with them is their name:
    1. It’s obvious no thought went into choosing it, beyond a 5-minute board meeting
    2. Negative associations with our “favourite” TV channel
    3. Since the name refers to Arabian Peninsula, the name limits its geographical spread.. even though it hasn’t stopped them

  32. 32. Kamasutra for Beginners | October 9th, 2006 at 7:31 pm

Since Jazeera Airways are eyeing the Indian sub-continent and Egypt for the lion’s share of their revenue it is ludicrous that they let slip Assuit, Luxor, Mumbai, New Delhi and Cochin from their route map on the homepage.
As for the name, it has a fantastic recall appeal and the man on the Arab street who identifies readily with the supposedly infamous news channel will be only too glad to fly an airline that name.

    1) How long will it be before Jazeera break even?

    2) Why is it taking forever to launch flights to Cairo?

    3) We are cocksure Q8 Airways must be trying very hard to make life difficult for Jazeera by unscrupulous means. Please refute or substantiate.
