Book Cafe

I was checking out Nemo’s blog when I found her post on a cafe located in Omneya complex in Salmiya called Book Cafe.

This is the description taken from the Book Cafe facebook page:

A quiet place
Provides you with Taekwondo, physical and mental relaxation
To think deeply, to read a book, to discuss a draft
My place is the beginning to achieve a place for you in the world
Start here

Judging by the pictures the place looks cool (color matches my blog) and the idea seems interesting but not too sure about the location. Nat also brought up a good point that usually when you want to read a book its more comfortable to read it while sitting on a sofa not a dinning room table. So bean bags or cozy sofas might be more suitable…

  3. Nat says:

Yeah Zaydoun, when u first come in, they try a couple of Taekwondo moves on you that completely knock you out into a deep state of relaxation i guess, lol.

“comfortable to read it while sitting on a sofa not a dinning room table”
i absolutely agree ,besides the color doesn’t provide the relaxation atmosphere!

    Yaaaaay IKEA chairs.

I have 2 of them, and have studied while sitting in them, and they’re not very conducive to a good read. But they look cool, so I still love them anyway.

it’s a nice idea but does it have food? i had a similar idea, and i didnt think it’s done anywhere else…but hehe i guess i was wrong :P
i prefer a place to study, use great wireless internet, quiet, and i can get snacks from the cafeteria..and a library with ENGLISH and arabic books.maybe a photocopy center..
..maybe someone can do this idea here..they’re make a fortune..im sick of starbucks..it’s not an ideal place to study but everyone seems to like the idea of holding a study group there..
starbooks had an attempt at something similar but i don’t know where they disappeared to..they even had a lecture room that you could rent out..

Anyplace with books and quiet needs big, comfy chairs. More like The One Cafe.. or Central Perk!

  15. twaif says:

i miss starbooks , they are closed now.
so everybody is complaining on the seating i hope ( BOOK Cafe owner ) will read our comments so we relax there.

@Lily, I have a somewhat completed business plan for such a concept that you described (the concept was inspired by a cafe i used to frequent almost daily while studying in the US). I never finished up the business plan simply because of the economic situation in kuwait and “loose” money drying up meaning no funding being available… maybe if i come across a pile of cash i’ll actually be able to go through with my idea one day :)

    @cg
if you’re kuwaiti, there’s the small businesses development thingy they do here..they fund some of the capital..and you have to be over 21, if you’re not kuwaiti what you could do is hook up with someone who is and you trust..and start it..that’s how buffalos cafe, layla harmony, etc all started..it’s a nice idea..
i really wish you all the best..i hope you’ll do it..ill do your marketing for free too :P and ill send all my students to study there :P

hi everyone … i’v been there its really nice place..i told the owner about the seats (chairs) and she told me that she’s going to change it for sofas and tea tables .. but all she needs now is time, it’s very new place she didn’t even open it officially yet..GeordieLass for ur informations..she didn’t fail her businesses before..she’s still have her coustomers for the wedding planner but she said that there’s nothing new to offer with all competitive in that field but she’s happy to organized a wedding of urs .. she’s working hard and there’s nothing wrong if u fail and learn from ur mistakes..the owner told me her ideas for the cafe and i love it …i’m very proud of her..and i think we should support all the kuwaitis..best luck for all of you thanks
