He is in Turkey

My brother is online now from Turkey. He left Lebanon yesterday with the Canadian Embassy on a crappy ferry boat and today, 20 hours later he arrived to Turkey. They had to sleep on the floor on the ferry and it was a fucked trip. He is now at a highschool stadium where surprisingly they have WIFI. This is what he had to say about the evacuation so far:

20 hours on a fucking ferry boat
it fucking sucks
seriously
it’s so bad
i will show you pictures when i get to kuwait
you will think i was on an african refugee boat
they’re so unorganized
those who aren’t going to canada, have to wait for the rest of the people to go to the airport to pick up luggage
then we have to find our way to Istanbul
i hate canada

update: my brother was very tired and exhausted when he wrote that.

These were the same exact same feelings we had when we were evacuated to England during the Iraqi invasion!

Why express a hatred for Canada? Is the Canadian government supposed to have luxury cruise ships moored offshore just in case an untoward event will happen? Who pays for that - the non-resident Canadians living or vacationing in Lebanon? Individuals were moved as refugees from a war-zone - luxury has no place in the situation whereas mobilization by any means plays the important role. There is no obligation on the part of the non-resident Canadians (individuals carrying a Canadian passport but not having a permanent address in Canada) in Lebanon (or elsewhere) to tell the Canadian government that they are there, yet when a catastrophic event occurs, the Canadian government is miraculously supposed to know where everyone is and carry out an immediate rescue. Where is the fault with this scenario? It’s not with the Canadian government.

I didn’t think I was on a honey moon, but when the Canadian embassy lies to us, and tells us the ride is only 8 hours, when there are mothers with their children on the ship, it was horrible. 20 hours. Can you imagine? Wait till you see pictures of children sleeping near trash. How can you say something like that when you guys dont even know what happened? shame on you.
