Right on Tim

If MOC had any sense, with the budget at hand, they should be able to atleast get a tier 2 link to help move the country forward.
The problem is with large busines monopolies in Kuwait, they wil find one way or another to get the job subcontracted to them delaying the country a further 5 years.

I just hope MOC doesn't offer these hi-speed services through existing IP's like Qualitynet, Fastelco, etc.

I wrote about Kuwait getting fiber back in August: http://k.thekuwaiti.com/index.php/2005/08/29/optical-kuwait/

Stafa:
Fiber-optics can not be installed by low-education workers, its very fragile and quite hard to work with. My office got Fiber last week, we are currently running two 25mbps links from it to the main MOC building in Kuwait city.

tim,
Probably the infrastructure will be there, but the tel lines/links will default to inactive, and people are charged on activation of each one.

There is a lot of uncertain details everytime they do this kind of thing. Will they dig up all the areas to install these new cables, because none of the areas have the infrastructre so what exactly are they going to do about it. Secodnly Fiber optic prices are going to be expensive right off the bat!

juicy - that article was great but I just can't imagine everyone being given this 1) at all 2) free of at least installation charge:
"Every house will have four standard phone lines, and two links for the Internet and ultra-rapid transfer of data or video. The two links can be used as extra phone lines, said Khajah."

Fiberoptics do alot more than provide internet access. And for the record; the high prices are not dictated by the connection between the ISP and your home. They are dictated by the cost to interconnect to other countries/backbones. What might become cheaper as a result of fiber? Telephones and Television.
