  3. 3. Amjad | November 12th, 2007 at 10:47 am

even though I’m not in Kuwait, I’ve been looking forward to checking this website tonight just out of curiosity, lol. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. 4. Zed | November 12th, 2007 at 11:09 am

i was wondering what it was, eGo huh? cool

  5. 5. Equalizer | November 12th, 2007 at 11:27 am

Kuwait’s internet prices are 10 times the global average, according to a recent news report. I don’t want the fastest, how about the cheapest?

Actually I want both. 1 G speed for 10KD, thats fair, for now.

  6. 6. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 11:32 am

10 times the average? WIRED recently had a survey done and we weren’t that bad, maybe more like the average. Will try to find the chart online.

  7. 7. MYK | November 12th, 2007 at 11:35 am

There’s something wrong with the timer, it says 24 minutes left.

  8. 8. Lexicon | November 12th, 2007 at 11:45 am

hey mark could you post the link to the survey it would be interesting to see the results

  9. 9. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 11:49 am

MYK: maybe your clock is not set right?

    Lexicon: what survey?

  10. 10. Frankom | November 12th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

:: I don’t know but i think they want to get attention ! but this time i don’t think its a big time show because its not even in the newspaper, what do you think Mark?

  11. 11. Nouf | November 12th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Maybe it’s only up for an hour because they are doing some kind of promotion that is only available for an hour, like 50% off the new e-Go or something.

  12. 12. Frankom | November 12th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

    :: Yeah could be !

  13. 13. cajie | November 12th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

I hope they have setup enough bandwidth on the server to handle the traffic.

  14. 14. fatfukka | November 12th, 2007 at 3:35 pm

Maybe there internet service is actually going to work reliably - for one hour only.

  15. 15. fatfukka | November 12th, 2007 at 3:35 pm

…which is 59 minutes longer than Watanya ever managed.

  16. 16. Sam | November 12th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

Guys, the info is already present on their website.
13.5 for the standard speed and 27 for the super speed, both are unlimited but they mention that super has no internet or bandwidth restrictions!!!!!
Then again you can find that they are contradicting the “unlimited” part with the “Fair usage policy” as they say they will cap your download for unfair use, so what is “unfair use” to them? this is an open term and they can use it as they like.
Another thing what would happen to who has the current eGo service will we be able to switch to the new services before the one year commitment or not? and for your information, by the way, the eGo device supports up to 3.6MB speed max and cannot go further.

  17. 17. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 3:46 pm

Sam, FYI, the new e-GO which is listed on their site supports the 7.2 speed. if you have an old one you need to have it upgraded by them.

  18. 18. Yazeed | November 12th, 2007 at 4:50 pm

the ego device just needs a firmware upgrade to be able to handle 7.2

  19. 19. Stafa | November 12th, 2007 at 6:51 pm

I think they’re having a special promotion for 1hr to grab more customers for their e-go, oh well, we’ll see in 2hrs..

  20. 20. Sam | November 12th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

Mark, if it’s the Huawei E220 device then it only goes up to 3.6MB, and it can’t be upgraded by firmware.
Yazeed, the eGo (which is the Huawei E220) this one can’t be upgraded by firmware as it’s already upgraded from 384KB before and it can’t go any further.
You can do a search for that device and find all the info about it, and I couldn’t find a commercial product that supports 7.2MB in the time being.

  21. 21. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Well they upgraded my old ego to 7.2 and supposedly the new ones which are black are 7.2. currently i think only 2 other mobile operators offer 7.2 so its not a popular thing so that could be why you could find any info on it.

  22. 22. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 8:05 pm

ok after just typing huawei 7.2 in google, the first link talks about how to upgrade to 7.2

    http://www.expansys.es/ft.aspx?k=98947

    google is your friend

  23. 23. Sam | November 12th, 2007 at 8:15 pm

I did google it Mark but I found the info I told you about. By the way, thank you for the link. So would I upgrade my self or let them do it?
Another thing, will they let me go with the new service or I have to complete my year first? (which is not logic as I’m capped with 5GB limit and the new service is unlimited with the option of cheaper price 13.5KD vs 16KD)

  24. 24. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 8:24 pm

i would let them upgrade it for you that way you dont risk messing it up. about everything else you asked i have no clue.

  25. 25. Miss_K | November 12th, 2007 at 9:04 pm

so it says it’s finally here… what is?!!

    stupid campaign

  26. 26. fatfukka | November 12th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

Having just logged onto the site to see what the big deal was, I’m a little disappointed.

Advertising 7.2Mpbs when the existing service which claims 1.2Mbps but gets absolutely nowhere near that for most of the day, seems a little - well - let’s be polite and say - cheeky.

Time to cut through all the worthless hype in Kuwait, and finally get off my arse to sign up for KEMS or Q-Net.

  27. 27. Rayboy | November 12th, 2007 at 9:17 pm

“Our premium offering for heavy users who want to surf the Internet, stream videos and download files constantly with unlimited usage at speeds up to 7.2Mbps. ”

“up to” is a dangerous word, it means to say that 7.X mb will not be constant…

    There are too many questions

    1. Will it be anywhere in kuwait?

    2. what does Fair Policy define when they say “Our premium offering for heavy users who want to surf the Internet, stream videos and download files constantly with unlimited usage ”

    3. What about technical support?

    4. Have anyone tried to network the ego ? meaning share it with more than 1 pc. if could do this , then i could connect the Game console to the network.

    5. Are we connecting at that speed 7.2 MBPS or we will be having a download rate of 936 KBPS constantly ?

    6. Since too many people will be buying with this latest so called craze. Will the Zain internet bandwidth cloud manage so many users?

    i wish someone had answers

  28. 28. Rayboy | November 12th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

K … could you say a few words?

  29. 29. Jaggo | November 12th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

Nouf was right, 50% off the ego. I just pre-ordered but they didn’t take down my knet number or visa card just my telephone number. Will they charge it on my bill??

  30. 30. Jaggo | November 12th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

    MIss K press ctrl f5

  31. 31. abdvllah | November 12th, 2007 at 9:58 pm

50%? So it costs half of my arm and half of my leg?

  32. 32. Lexicon | November 12th, 2007 at 10:04 pm

mark i meant the wired internet global survey?

  33. 33. Frankom | November 12th, 2007 at 10:15 pm

:: im fine with my 3.6Mbps i mean for now ! i dont need to pay an extra KD7 to get “UP TO” 7.2 hehe im sure i will recieve the same speed like before which is 150-170kbps

  34. 34. abood | November 12th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

*Sigh* E-go where do i begin? I purchased ego in late 2006 when Mtc where doing marketing at my work at KPC and i was a costumer with mtc (zain) roughly 14-15 years. That said ego was not that good the service was slow in browsing, downloading and bit torrent forget about it. Every time i called to complain about the service they told me there isn’t a single thing we can do, like it or not.Mind you i have a gold number 90, and a loyal costumer i pay my bills on time and i never had or made any problems. So anyway the first 2 weeks complaining to the costumer service my blood pressure rose dramatically and of course I did the whole song and dance where they register your complaint and within 24 or 48 hrs they will get back to you…..sadly no luck. With no refund or costumer service to truly answer any Q&A about the product and with no end in sight i did what any irrational warm blooded Kuwaiti would do …I canceled my ego and my line and never looked back.

P.S Mark if your not going to post my comment because your in bed with Zain at least pass on this message to them and let them know how it really is.

  35. 35. Lama | November 12th, 2007 at 10:29 pm

some say its good and some say its bad.

Mark I would suggest that you hold a survey for the eGo. and lets see what the majority think.

  36. 36. maldeeb | November 12th, 2007 at 10:39 pm

they said “To ensure a high quality of service and to provide equal access opportunities to all our customers, Zain follows a fair usage policy (for data sent and received) on monthly basis. Subject to fair usage policy, upon exceeding fair usage limits”, so that means that u will not get a 7.2 connection like 24/7 . it will depend on how many users to this service are connected to ur nearest transmition station.
    1) the question is what is average speed that we will get?
    2) will we be able to download movies ?
    3) will the connection suffer from firewalls blocking the incomming connections?

  37. 37. Yazeed | November 12th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

i use’s mobily’s device, the same as zain’s ego, and they offered the firmware on their website so ppl can upgrade, so surely u can use that to update

  38. 38. Sam | November 12th, 2007 at 10:47 pm

From my experience, eGo doesn’t work (sucks big time) with eMule and any torrent client. Other than that it’s fine, download speeds range from 100-120 and in some best times 150 Kbps.

  39. 39. Mark | November 12th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Lexicon, will look for it now
abood, you can post whatever you want about Zain

  41. 41. British School of Sarcasm | November 13th, 2007 at 10:14 am

Isn’t it time they made all of Q8 a broad band Wi-Fi citi?

Taking a cue from UASC has Zain moved house to Dubai, finally?
Who’s next to go?? NBK, KIPCO, Jazeera or KOC?

  42. 42. JSmth | November 13th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

    Any updates?

    Few questions

1.Any body using the new 7.2?
2.What download speeds are you getting?
3.Are you able to download using torrent clients?

  43. 43. Yazeed | November 13th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

zain bahrain covered the whole country with wimax
so maybe they go that planned for kuwait too

:: Yazeed, how to upgrade my eGO through mobily site?

  45. 45. punky | November 13th, 2007 at 2:55 pm

MTC, ZAIN, Whatever the hell. Everything they do sucks, they just have a huge marketing budget that makes it seem like they don’t suck. Frankly i am sick and tired of dropped calls every two minutes. Driving in the car in the city and not having a dropped call, you can forget about it. They should change the name to mooZain.

  46. 46. fatfukka | November 13th, 2007 at 6:10 pm

    7.2 media-only event: update

I have 2 friends who entered all their details last night at 9pm.

Neither have heard anything from Zain.

    LOL. Quelle surprise.

  47. 47. nomi | November 13th, 2007 at 6:39 pm

I talked to zain representative today.
He said that for zain postpaid customer its 13 KD and for non customers its 15KD. in case of downloading more than 30 GB in a month, they would reduce the internet speed. 13 KD standard package has a speed of around 350 kbps and 26 KD super package has speed of 7.2 mbps.Getting super package for 12 months would save your 36 KD.
Would it be appropriate to compare this 7.2 mbps with the wataniya’s 512 kbps?
Well, I am not using any of the two! and I am still exploring the sites to get any appropriate package.
Can any one tell me, how many devices are there to connect to this wireless net. I dont want to pay any significant upfront cost.
If i connect through a mobile device would it use excessive battery or just normal. please guide me about this.

  48. 48. Yazeed | November 13th, 2007 at 6:56 pm

    @frankom
    go to http://www.mobilyconnect.com.sa
    skip the flash intro thing
then go to the USB modem upgrade, they got the link and the instructions right there

:: Yazeed, there is Dahsboard upgrade and firmware update should i upgrade both ?

  51. 51. Yazeed | November 14th, 2007 at 11:21 pm

    la only the firmware
the dashboard i think has to do with mobily, its like the program u use to login or something, i didnt upgrade it, i use a different program to login, but i get 7.2

  52. 52. fatfukka | November 22nd, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Any feedback on this new system, and if it works? My 2 friends who registered online were not at all contacted by MTC. Now MTC denies the website told them they would be contacted by MTC. <MTC tells them they should have bought at that time in the 1 hour. Both friends guarantee this option was not given to them.

  53. 53. shabbir | December 26th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

i just yesterday bought this zain data sim card
i use wataniya but since i bought another laptop which also needed a 24/7 net connection so i thought why not buy zain and give it a try… although its 30 kd (28 kd for wataniya). and i used utorrent to download a movie just to check its speed…. the average speed was 12 kbps and movie downloaded around 10%. then i removed the zain chip from my merlin xu870 pci express card and put the wataniya chip in it…. and i got a download speed of 215 kbps. so thank god they only took 9 kd as for this month only 5-6 days were remaining. me planning to go and cancel the service on 29th of this month… and wataniya rocks big time :D
