Kuwait & Video Games

game center

I just found the blog of Faisal Al-Dhalmawi at 1up.com. He has a very interesting write up on Video Gaming in Kuwait. He was even able to take pictures of some of the stores from the outside AND inside! Pretty cool stuff. [Link]

Heh, I got a job in ri7ab selling games first for 12KD. If I’m late I’m not paid :(. First-come, first-serve is the policy.

that dude sounds like a fucking moron. he’s pro-ratings in games! and OMG PIRATED GAMES RUIN YOUR LAZERRR LENZ! what a totally stupid thing to say. if that was true then the new xbox 360 would be fucked since it officially supports most burned DVD and CD formats.

the videogame trade in kuwait could not exist without pirating, just like how modern kuwait couldn’t exist without foreign workers. 25-30KD for original games is laughable and if everything was legalised you would have the silly censorship laws extending to them so a lot of games would not even be allowed in kuwait and they would show up pirated anyway.

this idiot’s idea of heaven is apparently E-rated kiddie games released 2 months later than the US in PAL version sold at 25-30KD a pop.

Problem is the first original games are released are usually over-priced at $80, if it’s just the name, like GTA Liberty City Stories or Final Fantasy X. He’s sad about the piracy trade, well it freed us. And they don’t ruin your eye, only the weak fucking PS2’s like the first ones (SCPH-30001), I had one so fucked up I damaged it by destroying the fan then bought a silver PS2 (SCPH-50004). Different eye mechanism, and worked perfect with me for a long time. Also that comment:

“I was shocked when I saw my little cousin playing GTA San Andreas burning people and killing.”

I play GTA San Andreas with my little sister regularly, and it hasn’t warped her or anything. Some people over-exaggerate way too much. The gaming scene in Kuwait is definite, hip, but over-priced, so there are some sacrifices.

“OMG PIRATED GAMES RUIN YOUR LAZERRR LENZ”

It’s true. The pirated disks are cheap and the prints on them aren’t centered correctly which means the disk does not balance properly in the tray.

“the videogame trade in kuwait could not exist without pirating”

Not true. Take a look at “Kuwait Center”. That shop has been selling nothing but original games since god knows how long and it’s still making money.

Where is the best place to buy newest games in kuwait? I always go to marina mall to the virgin store but they dont always have the newest games.

Its the shop in the picture above, Game Center. Its located in Rihab complex in Hawalli. First floor. You should find around 40 other videogame stores on the same floor also. Its like a videogame mall.
