It’s hot, I just want to see it in real life first, before deciding on anything, simply because I am too in love with the keyboard of the Powerbook and would hate it to be plasticy like the old iBook. If you know what I mean :/

No Firewire 800 . no DL DVD burner.. I’m sure that apple will bump up the spec of it’s current macbook pro specs and the macbook in a matter of weeks.
What’s up with the glossy screen ?
7. Mark | May 16th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
G-funk thats not how things work with Apple. They dropped FW800 on the MacBook Pro and they wont be adding it back. The Macbook wont have FW800 because its meant for students.
DL DVD burner again might be used by pros and so could be later on added to the MacBook pro but doubtful for the regular MacBook.
Also the MacBook Pros just got a speed bump today

I was a bit excited when I sow the black macbook, but as soon as I’ve noticed that there is $200 price charge just to have the luxury of a different color I knew it was a childish move from apple. Basically they are saying “you want black ? .. bend over”.

I worry about the “glossy” screen…I hope they didn’t pull a toshiba.

Mark.. Apple didn’t pull FW800 from the Macbook pro.. it’s in it’s 17″ model. and it also has a DL DVD burner. Dual layer Blank DVD’s are getting cheaper by the day.. before they switch to blue ray DVD.. when ever that happens.. untill blank Blue ray DVD’s become at consumers price point . apply would adopt it .
One other thing to mention is that the new MacBook is aimed towards regular consumers (or shall i say Students) but i’ve seen pro’s with iBooks . so . they should have had a built to order costumizable macbook . with the ability to add a DL DVD burner . and a Video card.. because the other bad thing about the new MacBook is that it has a shared video memory with the systems main memory. not a dedicated ghrapics card.
conclusion.. if you are on the market looking for a computer that surves u as an internet browsing/email checking/music jukebox/dual Booting .and good looking.. The macbook is the way to go.. but fore exrta few dollars or shall i say KD’s .. you’d get a better machine with the MacBook pro.

Apple pulled the FW800 from its most popular MacBook Pro the 15inch…
The thing is they are not aiming MacBooks at people who want to do some serious design work or video editing. Like the old iBook its for regular people who want a regular computer. I am going to get the low end one for myself. Yeah sure you see iBooks with pros but pros arent buying iBooks for hardcore work on them, they probably buying ibooks for the uses you mentioned, web browsing, itunes, typing etc.. if they are buying the ibook cuz they cant afford the powerbook then they cant afford a customized ibook with alll the things you said.
anyway this is not how Apple works. Apple keeps things simple. They will never allow as much customization as you are asking for where you get to choose a dedicated vga card if you wanted.
from $1099 to $1999 is not a few dollars anymore, its double the price. are you getting a machine thats twice as good? The biggest thing that set the ibooks and the powerbooks apart was the monitor spanning. Pros like to connect their powerbooks to larger screens and span. You can now do that with the regular MacBooks so looks like the biggest difference other then the screen size is the dedicated vga card.
The black one is cool, but other then the high price point i realized its also starting to look like a regular PC laptop.

Mark,
I understand your point . but for a novice user these specs are like any regular consumer PC , you can get the same specs for 800 - 900 $ max . not to down apple or nothing because I’m a mac user for a long time. , These machines are worst that thair predesessors , they had a dedicated VGA card while the new ones doesn’t . All i see is a Prosessor upgrade , isight and a new shiny look . other than that . I’d rather spend my money on an iBook than a MacBook.. which i know that apple would upgrade it soon ( like they always do ) with new models. they tend to sell as much as they can for early adaptors just like they did with the MacBook Pro and all of their machines prior that . (I was a case of that change with a Powermac G4, a Powermac G5 aand an iMac G4 & 5) so i’ve learen a valuble lesson.
for people wanting to buy the new MacBook . (wait and save your money. new ones are coming soon after)
13. Mark | May 17th, 2006 at 6:24 pm
the vga card is better then the previous versions. even if the current vga cards are not dedicated they still perform better then the older ones plus allow spanning while the older card only allowed mirroring.
the new macbooks have a lot of major advances over the regular ibooks and if you can’t see that then thats just you.
and your advice of wait something new is coming soon after.. dude thats been the case since like 1980. There is always something new coming after.. thats stupid advice.
finally it doesnt seem you know a lot about macs and proof of that is when you compare a macbook to a 800-900$ PC.

Like the hell you know better !? yeah right..
anyways.. you happy with the new macbook . go fetch one. I wouldn’t coz it’s way less than what i need.. just got me a 17″ macbook pro. That makes it my 7th mac to date .

its obvious you dont have much knowledge in macs which means I do know a hell of a lot better then you.
