OBEY Kuwait
Abdullah, a reader of the blog sent me a picture of the giant wall sticker above which he took while he was in the States. The reason he sent it to me is because it looked very similar to Kuwait’s national logo (also pictured above). I wonder if a Kuwaiti living in the States remixed the logo or if Shepard Fairey (the guy behind OBEY) did it himself. He already admitted that his famous Obama Hope poster was based on a copyrighted photograph so it wouldn’t be to far fetched to think that he based this design on the Kuwaiti national logo. For those of you who don’t know anything about OBEY or Shepard Fairey, check this [Link]

Thieving Dragons! Cant these adverting people come up with anything original anymore? Speaking of which, what the heck is going on with Wataniya’s advertising???????? They use to have such good ad’s, real trendy stuff, now they’re dull and boring….It like they’ve lost their edge recently for some reason!! How does this happen? I use to always rip off my Zain buddies with Wataniya’s cool ad’s (no offence Mark, I know u do work for them), looks like the jokes on me now :(

i googled this :
After Kuwait became independent in 1961, the old flag was changed, and a new emblem was designed in 1962. The present emblem of Kuwait is a falcon with outspread wings embracing a dhow (Boom) sailing on blue and white waves. It is a symbol of Kuwait’s maritime tradition.
so the kuwaiti logo or emblem was designed in 1962 :)

You can see it in this image from Google maps (street view). It’s not clear, but you can notice it in the centre

Its called symbolism people, he wasnt trying to imitate kuwaits logo he was trying to send a message to people who understand sacred symbolism .. do you honestly think it was a coincidence that he made that obama poster and just like that it became his campaign poster, people are so gullible

The Kuwait Coat of Arms was adopted in 1962… Fairey was born in 1970! SIMPLE AS THAT ;-)
