I just found out that there are three people (2 guys 1 girl) at the ministry who’s job is to test video games all day. They play every game that needs to be brought into Kuwait to make sure they don’t contain anything illegal like nudity.

Mark this department is under the Ministry of Moral Guidance and Preventon of Vice. They arent a 3 member team – way more than your defined / given number and they arent limited to video games only!!!
just means they take longer to release the games.
nyx: I know the post title was supposed to be funny. There are a lot of people under the department of moral guidance and prevention of vice but i was told only 3 are responsible for trying out the games.

Since when is the job of a government office/ministry is to baby sit the citizens? why do the government of Kuwait insist on treating its citizens as underage kids who were not raised and need raising?
Everyone have parents to raise us and tell us what is right and what is wrong. It is the parents responsibility to insure that their kids don’t get exposed to bad stuff. You can not force all people to follow one person’s opinion. If you think bekini is bad, others think its alright.. if you think nikab is right, other think its wrong.
There is no set of standards that we can all follow. Sure we are Muslim Kuwaitis… but there is individuality and personality. Even animals – which represent God’s order for community – have that thing.
It saddens me to see my country is advancing backwards. :(

I have a question: why are these assigned personnel allowed to view nudity & violence, while other people are not? Do they have some kind of immunity? My point is, to know where a dirty scene begins and ends, and to be able to cut it, they have to see it.
old news guys , i’ve been in there , actully 2 indians , male and a female and an egyptian , they acclaim to finish a game fully in order to license it , which is B/S . also i saw thier archive , i’d say it’s lke a small confrense room to tell the truth.
they had most of the consoles that are presently being played.
BTW , They license the game in a day or 2 more likely ,because the importer would shave thier asses in ‘n’ out! if they didn’t release the game in time . therefore , i don’t think they will ever finish a single game. if they were , how come resident evil came out so quickly?? even before release day??
There is no way in hell that 3 guys wud keep up with all the games with all the different versions for different consoles, and the add-on packs, and the easter eggs, no matter how nerdy they are .. DON’T even try to convince me otherwise. Not even a 100 wud do.
Plus you can always rip the games off from torrents, both “legal” and “illegal” ones, u can even download them after u buy them officially if u’d like, so this whole thing is silly, just a waste of 3 more salaries.
I can’t say that they do seem to have the dream job of most of our readers here, me included, but if they were only beta testers for under development games, and if they had an opinion on the story line or hints to make the game run quicker and better, now such a position is a dream job for me :P
I want to become their Kuwaiti supervisor and take the games home. Do i apply through the Diwan?

About how being a video game tester (or in this case video game censor-er) would not be the dream job people think it is.

The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) on every single game exactly specifies what the game contains, I don’t see how this is made into a job.

their qualification must be CPGT :certified public game tester!!
they should have some ethics to protect public interest as well. e.g. they should not accept bonus lives or scores so no one could presume they have conflict of interest.

this has nothing to do with the government or any ministry. But it has a lot to do with the MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT that you choose. The department of moral guidance and prevention of vice is made by the previous parliament thanks to the people you elected.
In order for this tend to stop you need to vote. Not just vote, but vote RIGHT! or else you have nobody else to blame but yourselves.

Sounds kinda weird though. What’s the use of the Ranking on the game box? It states if game has nudity.

that’s weird games here are released before the US, plus many contain nudity..
Mr Kuwaiti: true, but those games you’re talking about are the ones sold at Rihab. Proper stores like Sony, Virgin, Alghanim, Carrefour, Barou etc.. import games legally and so they need to go through proper channels.
