They built it, but no one came

This is a very beautifully shot documentary on the South China Mall, the worlds largest shopping mall. To give you an idea on how big the mall is, the largest mall we have in Kuwait is Avenues and that isn’t even in the top 10 list of largest malls. Dubai Mall on the other hand is the 4th largest shopping mall in the world, the South China Mall is literally twice as big as the Dubai Mall. The problem? Only 12 stores have been occupied out of the 1,500 the shopping mall has.

It’s a 13 minute long documentary but you don’t have to watch all of it although it would be hard to stop. Here is the [Link]

I’ve been to the Avenues only once, and I’ve been to Emarats mall plenty of times. The Avenues is definetley much much MUCH bigger than Emarats mall. I don’t know why they say its bigger… maybe because they count the attached hotel and the sky thing? but that isn’t really a mall. In the avenues u can land two Learjets next to each others between the shops! now thats huge -_-

Bigger malls means bigger risk and more empty shops or shops running a loss. More malls in Kuwait means a disaster in the making.

It doesn’t matter if Avenues is bigger or smaller than Mall of the Emirates… it’s far nicer, brighter and the layout makes sense.

The mall of the emirates and Dubai mall blow the living hell outta the avenues.

Avenues is a pretty dull affair on the whole. The same boring chains.

There isn’t even a decent media outlet and what’s worse is there are 25 starbucks on every corner.

A characterless pit where the agaad dwell.

I forgot the name of the mall in Canada, but I read a few months ago that it was the largest mall in the world, must have been old site.
Compared to UAE, I think Kuwait can do much better, Kuwait was one no. 1 in the gulf. But the mentality and way of thinking and implementing counts. All Kuwait does is take oil revenue and utilize it back into oil.
