For a country that has 10 % of the World’s $95 a barrel oil, 3 million people, Kuwait is one of the most under developed countries in the world. The disgraceful hospitals, shitty roads, shitty govt schools - absolutely wasteful.

  6. 6. yo_ghurt | November 18th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

    Whoooo…explains a lot.

Should be another map which shows who USES the most oil.

Put the two together and BINGO! we get a blueprint for US foriegn policy for the foreseeable future.

    ;)

yo_ghurt, there is a legend on the bottum left that explains the colours of the countries and how much oil they use.

  14. 14. Sam | November 18th, 2007 at 8:58 pm

Also it’s mentioned below the map the the size of each country is proportionate to the oil reserve it contains.
So you get the idea of the quantity by the size of the country and the amount that country uses by the color of it.

Croco whatever. kuwait is a great country that offered great things to its citizens many benefits . I live in washington dc and i think the roads are shittier whenever it snows or theres a storm electricity dissapears for days ,,, medical care is mediocre nothing compared to europe … the average citizen does not get free medical care like kuwait or india .. there are great hositals but they are not available for the average citizen. when u say education … i say we don’t have gangs and theives in our schools no rape no pedophiles no teachers sleeping with kids no drug dealers not as many school drop outs ..!! last but not least the number of women abused killed and raped is the highest by far in the whole world … so instead of saving the world why don’t you save your own ppl !!! THank good i am a kuwaiti woman and i am Proud for the life and privelage i have …!!! al7mdila allh ytamim 3laina wa inshalla ..Btw i can’t wait to leave this sh****le.

Croco Rock: Obviously u have’nt been to other 3rd world countries then. Try India, China, Pakistan or any other country, then make ur stupid assumptions.

Croconot..if you are so proud of kuwait, leave Washington and go back. People here arent too fond of your type anyway :)

  27. 27. fatfukka | November 19th, 2007 at 7:17 am

Roads full of holes. Dirt, garbage, food waste littering the streets like a post-apocalyptic scene. Buildings people have to live in that would be condemned in a developed country. Maids brutally beaten - sometimes to death. Driving like there’s no regard for humanity or any human who gets in the way (unless he is important).

Yeah, well done on having all that oil.

  28. 28. Bo-Bader | November 19th, 2007 at 10:36 am

Croconot.. it seems that you have not been to Kuwait since the 70s!! I am a Kuwaiti and I hate to say the following. Based on 2005 GDP per Capita, Kuwait is number 36 worldwide (Good thing). We do have free health care, education .. etc. We also do have high rate of crime, rape, and murder, just read the newspapers. However, Public education in Kuwait is so bad that private schools are flooded and cannot handle more students. The health care sector is really messed up.. for example, my brother spent 12 months from hospital to another trying to know what is wrong with him. My father booked him a ticket and sent him to London, they diagnosed him with scleroderma the first day and told him that valuable time was wasted. Our health care is only good for Panamol (not even Panadol) and cough medicine.

One more thing, I did a research on oil reserve issue some time ago. It is funny that Kuwait and KSA increased their oil reserve since the 1980s just to increase the production. Actual data are impossible to know.

It is that attitude of some people who say “we are better than some other countries” that is keeping us from improving Kuwait. We have to admit that we have serious problems that need to be solved NOW. Our children will be the victim here not us if things keep going on this direction.

I’m not Kuwait. But I help you guys get the black gold out of the ground in ever-increasing quantities so I feel entitled to an opinion.

As you’re fond of famous quotes, here’s one:

Sunny, I don’t think Croco Rock made stupid observations (it’s not assumptions by the way). Comparing Kuwait to other 3rd world countries like India, China and Pakistan is like comparing apples and oranges. Completely two different things.

First of all, from the capital resources, the GDP per capita of Kuwait is superior to that of Pakistan, India and even China. So by pointing out that the conditions in those countries are worse than in Kuwait does not make Kuwait, with such a powerful resources, a better country in terms of what it can provide to its people.

Second of all, please compare the geographical or demographical size of Kuwait to that of those countries. For them, allocating their resources to such large population across such large area, naturally present more challenge than it would be for Kuwait.

But I guess, it’s almost an instinct for some people here to quickly point out other miserable countries when Kuwait is under critics, logics be damned.

  34. 34. abood79 | November 19th, 2007 at 3:29 pm

    Yeah…its all logics fault.
    Damn that logic.

  35. 35. fatfukka | November 20th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

I think comparing Kuwait to Singapore would work.

  36. 36. Jolie_Gal | November 20th, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Well I’m not sure whether it’s fair to compare Kuwait and Singapore, since according to GDP per capita, Kuwait is no. 21 and Singapore is no. 26 (no. 20 is Germany and completely superior to Kuwait in many factors) but let’s give it a try. These are several factors I can think of, please feel free to add some more.

Let’s see how generous is this rich government on education: public expenditure per student as a percentage of GDP per capita: Kuwait is no 81 and Singapore is no. 80

Library members per capita: Singapore no. 4 and Kuwait again doesn’t make it.

Tertiary level enrollment ratio: Singapore is no. 46 and Kuwait is no. 72

Top 100 University: Singapore has 2 (India also has 2), and Kuwait has none.

Percentage of population with adequate access to sanitation facilities: Singapore is no. 6 and Kuwait doesn’t even make it to the list (Qatar is no. 4 by the way)

Per capita government expenditure on health: Kuwait no. 49 and Singapore no. 57 (nice….)

However, overall health performance per capita: Singapore is no. 8 and again Kuwait doesn’t make it.

Transportation Facility: Airport - Need I compare Singapore’s and Kuwait’s? Public Transportation - Ditto

Crime: Kuwait and Singapore both impressively don’t make it to the list in many criterias beside of course in Human Trafficking, Kuwait is in International Watch list and Singapore isn’t. In corruption, Singapore’s index is 9.4 and Kuwait is 4.7 (10 being highly clean and 0 being highly corrupt).

In Life Satisfaction Singapore is no. 21 and Kuwait, again, doesn’t make it.

So I think it’s objective enough to say, for a country with such strong economy, Kuwait is lacking.
