I think its meant to be used to filter incoming emails. Like for my amazon account i would use myemail+amazon@gmail.com while for my cnn account i could use myemail+cnn@gmail.com etc.. then i can set up a filter in gmail which will label my emails according to what email they sent it to. if i find out that cnn is spamming me i will just have the filter automatically dump it in the trash.
