This is why I LOVE this site… Unbiased bashing, pro and con! LOL So now lemme enter MY two cents. In the US, the Hostage comes first, end of story. It wouldn’t be likely that the Gunman would get to drive away, period. His car would’ve been stopped. (many ways to do it) I DO, however, respect that officer that walks up to someone with an ASSAULT RIFLE… Couldn’t be me… :) Bottom line, no matter how it is done in the States, Kuwait, or anywhere else… (this time) Nobody got hurt? Right? Hell, you would think that the guy had money in the Stock Market… LOL

Ok here is how I see it

Hellraiser, bobdair & Frankie all 3 of you got valid points and are absolutely correct Cops around the world and even here in Kuwait never use Lethal Force unless the lives of the public or themselves are considered to be in Immenent danger. That too the order needs to be sanctioned by a higher authority. In most cases especially here in Kuwait its quite rare to see a shoot out like one would see every other day in the States. There are exceptions of course .. I take you back to the shoot out a couple of years ago in Hawally where two brave police officers were killed and one was injured by terrorists.

Here is the contrast ….. :)

I agree with sfsa78 also …when push comes to shove who do the cops protect ?? The crazy nut with the gun or the poor innocent hostage in his grasp. I wouldnt be surprised had it come to it; the way he was holding the gun in the pic at her waist level a sniper with Kuwait SWAT could have easily taken him out. The fact that he surrendered or got way makes him lucky.

THIS FACT MAKES HIM REALLY FUCKING XTREMELY LUCKY and kinda makes you wonder if what what Teeman said was true then what kind of security is guarding our head of State :-) . my personal quote

Let me make it easier for you…. When a person is holding you hostage with a gun at your head, youre telling me that if you manage to kill him out of self defence you will be prosecuted because you didn’t negotiate with him????
the police are there to rescue you or him???

holding a gun at a hostage that you threaten to kill and have unloaded at least one round at a police officer that he just pushes to the ground.. Tell me isn’t the police supposed to be incontrol of the situation???
any police around the world have authority and do act upon it to shoot the man dead, because the intention is to keep hostage safe not criminal who already shot at police. Secondly they usually bring in hostage negotiators when they dont think they can takeout hostage taker without harming hostage…
if u wanna get into details guys… Talk some sense for f’s sake.
When a criminal shoots at least one round from a gun, by the books it is an intent to kill, that is how of is treated around the world. If he didn’t pull the trigger it would be a different story. Police dont wait until a hostage is killed.

I think mark should do a piece on the lack of common sense in Kuwait!!
Obviously some government school graduates here are thinking at full compasity!! LOL
