A day out in Bnaider

Took my Tamiya FJ out rock crawling with some friends today in Bnaider. The weather was good and the location was perfect for our cars. I shot some video which I am going to edit and upload later but here are a few pictures for now.

Update: Here is the video.

That’s a toy right? probably the most expensive, but still .. a toy!!

    I don’t understand men!

  5. Mathai says:

man I love the articulation of those axles! hows the video editing coming along ?

  6. Mark says:

I am trying to do something proper and its time consuming. Usually I just slap clips after each other but I am trying to step up my game a bit this time :)

  7. Mathai says:

okay! I dont mind waiting! good luck :)

  8. Mohammad Iqbal says:

best of luck with video mark .. i am sure its gonna be worth the wait …

  9. Summer says:

  10. Al-Yamamah says:

Great shots ..! It looks almost like a real car :)

  11. Realist says:

Which is better, electric or gas powered ?

  12. Holla says:

You need to take shots with that technique used for model cars to make them seem like they have the real proportion and size.

  13. ninesixfive says:

thats not a “toyota” fj right?

  14. ninesixfive says:

it doesnt look like one … its like a clone of your jeep

  15. Khaled says:

    ninesixfive : it’s a Toyota Landcruiser FJ..

You’re probably thinking about the Toyota FJ cruiser. different car :) hope this clears things.

  17. Kuwait says:

ROFL 0:43 Didn’t expect that lol!

  18. Pyyth4 says:

whoa..looks cool……what if it was the real thing?

  19. Pyyth4 says:

o and which song is it in the video ? i like the angles at which you shot the video, which camera did you use?

  20. YaCCo says:

    Video is just PRO!

FJ looks awesome. We all know, you had major problems with that project, but for sure the work is done and the result is absolutely fabulous.

Already next project on the table?

Pyyth4: Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now In The Fire

  22. Mark says:

Pyyth4: I used my D90 to shoot the video in full HD

  23. Burhan says:

Does the car have rear wheel turning as well? Looks like it from the video.

  24. Mark says:

Yeah its got 4 wheel steering. It was a last minute thing I added. It was first just regular front wheel steering but because I locked the differentials the turning radius became horrible so I installed rear steering as well to bring the turning radius back down.

  25. Pyyth4 says:

lol I can’t stop watching the HD one…

  26. Mark says:

thats good to know. It was my first experience shooting and editing a video like this. Should be better next time and maybe include more cars. I have total respect for directors and editors, their job is very challenging.

  27. Pyyth4 says:

the best part is the feel that it’s quite big
    and the song

if you added some slow-mo’s of the wheels spinning, or the FJ closing in towards the camera, then it would have been even greater….sort of matches the song too.

  28. Mathai says:

Whoa! awesome stuff ! nice editing and great soundtrack!
I’m hungry for more Mr. Director :)

  29. frankom says:

Great pics… honestly thought I was looking at a real Jeep Willy on 6 inch lifts doing its thing. But Honestly Mark great pics and nice video. I see some one adding artistic director to his resume soon. :)

  42. Bu Yousef says:

Great shots and video, Mark… Loved the filming :)

  43. gman says:

    Jens

  44. salah says:

Watching this is so boring, but I am positive that controlling it is way more fun.

  45. [...] I went back to Tamiya today to try out their crawling trail which is made for RC cars that are meant for rock climbing. The trail was made with a combination of plaster and wood and although challenging in some places I found it a bit tiny and too easy. It’s a great idea but too short a trail so I am hoping they have plans to extend it or make a larger one. For now will stick to Bnaider for crawling. [...]

  46. Othman says:

    it’s not a toy… it’s a scale model

  47. Othman says:

BTW, what tires are you using? fill the wheels up with BB pellets? They really help on slippery surfaces so it doesn’t slide off.

  48. Mark says:

I already have weights wrapped around the wheel from the inside, i think around 500 grams per wheel up front and a little less in the back.

  49. Nabil says:

    Hi Mark,

I would like to join you with my Traxxas Summit the next time you go out with your crawler. I have been enjoying RC Crawling all alone on the beaches and other places but have always wished to find a mate and go on an RC journey.. Please let me know..
