American Mangoes
I just got an American mango (top left of photo) from Dean & Deluca to try out and it was terrible, nothing like regular mangoes. It just tasted really really horrible, the worst mango I have ever had and by far! I hope I’ve not been scarred for life..

Did any one try the 1st class Anwar Rathor or Chonsa mangoes from Pakistan. They are known as king of Mangoes around the world.
No Offense, but Alphonso is just a 2nd class in the family of mangoes. Try these Pakistani mangoes during the month of June and July and I bet that you won’t forget the taste.
Just ask for Chonsa as it is the common one. If you find Anwar Rathor here then it will be your lucky day.

Americans, haram, don’t really understand how a mangoe should taste. South Americans are at the other end of the Asian/N.African mangoes. They like theirs sour with salt!

Most mass produced American fruits and vegetables look perfect but are really tasteless.

Hi, please try Philippine mangoes. It was proclaimed by guiness book of world record as the sweetest mango in the world. No wonder why David Archuleta liked it while he’s in Philippines (yes, he and David C. had a concert at Manila last night). I tried the PI mango that was for sale at Kabayan’s store in Faheel, but it was different. Perhaps I am used to eating the real fresh mango the we have in Philippines. For some of my friends in the office they said it was good, but I can really tell the difference.
Have a great week ahead everyone!

Ohkay! So now we have the mango wars going on;
Hindi, Bakstani, Amreeki wa Philipini!! Any more, maybe Indoneesi? Maybe Suri? Maybe Yapaani?
Mangoes, who’d have thought that they can trigger a “one up” argument!!!

The best mangoes are not even exported. The usually get consumed locally.
Why is Dean & Deluca defying the local taste of the market ?
27. Desert Girl | May 18th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
I have to agree with everybody else – we really have no right being in the mango market. It would be like if Kuwait tried to produce apples – just nooooo gooooood baba. Different soil.
An Indian guy built a house next to my sister’s. He tore down all the beautiful trees and has been trying to grown mangos – in Virginia soil and climate. Dude….
28. Gilbert | May 19th, 2009 at 10:09 am
@gabby: Philippine Mangoes are only good being consumed locally, they taste awfully different overseas. I guees Mark has to visit the Philippines and eat fresh Philippine mangoes and perhaps jet ski at Boracay island :)

Mark u have to accept the fact that u cannot get good mangoes all year round.
There is a certain time frame for them. Once it’s gone it’s gone khalas… that what makes good mangoes more special…
No need to try other wanna be mangoes…
30. gabby | May 19th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
@Gilbert: two thumbs up for that! what else can you ask for… :)
31. sandstorm | May 20th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
you can get real philippine mangoes in walid store salmiya.. but they don’t have the “premium” variety but its ok still it taste like most phils. mangoes. that’s on the street leading mc donald’s in mubarak. but timing is essential as it gets sold out very fast. better to get the contact number of the store so you can be advised of the availability.
if you’re really obsessed with mangoes better travel to the Phils. and go to Guimaras island. it is only in this island that the mangoes harvested are exported to the US. even in Manila its hard to find Guimaras mangoes as most if not all are exported directly to the US.
american mangoes are crap even my american brother-in-law admits.

btw, this time of the year is the best time for mangoes.. they grow best from march until july..
