Back from The Avenues

Just got back from The Avenues and its pretty big. The place looks cooler then Marina Mall and I counted at least 5 Starbucks, 2 Boots, 2 H&M’s and 2 The Body Shops. A lot of stores are still closed but its still worth a visit.

Hum… all AlShaya stores… big deal!
As much as i hate Marina Mall, it still has a better location. 50% of ppl who go to marina don’t go there for shopping…

  13. 13. Y M | March 19th, 2007 at 9:14 am

    Hi,

    Has Carrefour also open?

  14. 14. KLM | March 19th, 2007 at 9:16 am

the mall belonges to al shaya groupe, what do you expect?

  15. 15. Doosha | March 19th, 2007 at 12:05 pm

If shaya wants to own everything the least they can do is bring new shops…

  16. 16. Zack | March 19th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

Hey, just for a change!…More Al Shaya stores!
    :((((

    Predictable, predictable, predictable…

On the up-side, it’s another place on the map for Kuwait and a alternative to Marina and Sharq.

What this country needs is green…Wish the government would build a big park instead…Seriously!

  17. 17. Pearls | March 19th, 2007 at 12:21 pm

I second Zack though the weather won’t help but we can have an indoor park, fun for the kids

SUPRRISED TO SEE GAP FINALLY DECIDED TO COME TO THIS PART OF THE WORLD..AND AT THE AVENUES!

  19. 19. moocherx | March 19th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

Pearls, kids already take over everything in Kuwait and make in unbearable. We need a park for adults. And dogs.

  20. 20. LeP | March 19th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

so have gap n banana republic opened as yet?

  21. 21. holla | March 19th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

is this mall a fucking gimmick? i can understand in having like 2 starfucks’ on opposite sides of the thing but 5? this is like some bad joke.

  22. 22. ??? | March 19th, 2007 at 3:54 pm

But this mall is different than the rest of the malls in that it has bershka, banana republic, GAP, Carrefour, Lorenzia plus the H&M in this mall is going to sell men’s clothing which the one in Marina doesn’t. Moreover, most of the stores have not been opened yet so why don’t you guys just wait and see.

About the park thingy, there are serious plans to open a park in Salmiya in that huge empty plot opposite to Souq Salmiya. I’m guessing that work on it will start soon after the company who owns the project is freed from their other projects.

  23. 23. Mariam | March 19th, 2007 at 4:17 pm

holla if u dont like it then dont go.. shut ur big mouth i hate ppl who talk that way…

  24. 24. greentoad | March 19th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

What an utter, utter waste. Why the hell are Shaya opening the same shit shops all over the same mall…..utterly shit idea.

Free us from Shaya’s shitty schemes.

  26. 26. fwz247 | March 20th, 2007 at 12:38 am

hey i just come from the avenues just one word wanna say huge but actually i cant just they make the shops double like h&m and 5 star bucks something i can’t belivet it

  27. 27. Dishevelled | March 20th, 2007 at 12:42 am

Okay so it looks good, but that’s about it. They’re going with quantity over quality. Opening up another mall to accomodate the same stores that are EVERYWHERE in Kuwait is pointless. It’s not like the shelves of those shops go empty… the clothes are still there.

AlShaya started out well opening up new places and all, but its kind of getting lame with starbucks at every corner, the same shops in every mall. Also something I hate about AlShaya stores, they kept last years clothes mixed them in with this year’s collection as if there were new!
Also whats the point of another bunch of cinemas? It’s not like we have a lot of choices to choose from, or that the movies are new. And the fact that its censored makes it even worse. So okay, maybe the goverment’s to blame for the limitations and repetitveness. I just wish there was a bit more variety, or something kinda new.

But still… 5 starbucks in the same place! That’s just ridiculous

  28. 28. s | March 20th, 2007 at 12:47 am

what the hell !? why is everyone against al.shaye3 ?? they opened half the shops here. if you dont like them then dont go shopping in all those places they opened..

if it wasnt for al.shaye3 we wouldnt hav half the shops/restaurants here so stop complaining..

and secondly, kaifhom its thier mall they can open whatever they want and more then one if they want.. they made it so its thier choice what they wanna put..

    just stop complaining

  29. 29. I_Love_Azo0oz_q8 | March 20th, 2007 at 1:22 am

why is everyone excited for GAP???? its freakin lame, there clothes suck a$$ in the US no one shops there.

  30. 30. moocherx | March 20th, 2007 at 3:26 am

As a foreigner, it’s not worth opening a company in Kuwait and bringing in new brands (because if it worked out, the Kuwaiti would snatch it from under you). For Kuwaitis though, to own companies is much safer. So I guess every Kuwaiti who complains about Al Shaya needs to get off their lazy asses and become the local agent for other brands they want to see in Kuwait.

  31. 31. Carlsb3rg | March 20th, 2007 at 7:42 am

yeah we need parks for dogging :)))))

  32. 32. Zack | March 21st, 2007 at 11:34 am

Soon it will become The State of Al Shaya instead of The State of Kuwait!

My opinion about the coffee in Starbucks? It stinks. I like their interior decor. They are good, loungy places to hang out and meet up with friends. But the coffee? Needs to be worked on very seriously!

But 5 of them in The Avenues? That just sums up Kuwait for me…Lack of creativity.

  33. 33. Zack | March 21st, 2007 at 11:35 am

    Carlsb3rg,
The park would be called “Starbucks Park”;)
