Burger Review: Fauchon

The Best Burger in Kuwait Challenge
Fauchon isn’t one of those places that pops into mind when thinking about burgers but since a few people had recommended them I decided to give it a shot.

I passed by Fauchon at 360 Mall this weekend and ordered their Le Beef Burger a La Fauchon with classic fries on the side. According to the menu the patty is a prime US beef patty and comes with shredded cheddar cheese topped with their special dressing in their home made bun. The burger arrived and looked ok presentation wise except for the fact the whole thing looked kinda flat. When I first picked up the burger I noticed a problem and that was the bun was starting to fall apart. I hadn’t even taken my first bite so I realized that was going to be an issue. From that moment on I had to handle the burger very delicately at the risk of having the whole bun fall apart in my hand. After taking a few bites I realized two more things. First their special dressing tasted like a mix of cocktail sauce and salad dressing which doesn’t really belong on a burger. The second thing I realized is their beef patty might be the exact same ones I get from Sultan Center. Not a good thing since I’m not a fan of my home made burgers. The burger is pretty big and filling which is always a plus.

The final score for this burger is a 3 out of 5. One thing about this burger that I liked the most was the french fries that came on the side. They’re what I call hotel fries which is what I call fries that taste like ones you get from room service at hotels with a little portion of Heinz ketchup on the side. Price wise the burger cost KD4.450 which is fair for the fact it’s a burger at Fauchon although personally I don’t think it’s worth it since the burger wasn’t that great.

Fauchon is located at 360 Mall.
The cost of Le Beef Burger a La Fauchon was KD4.450

You should make the review summary as a table.

    what do u mean?

lol no way thats going to happen

I don’t think you’re able to determine the best in Kuwait or for that matter any other place due to the fact that some ratings are obsolete. You need to do a shortlist and revisit within a very short timeframe. Plus you have selected random burgers from the menu rather than a standard formula, a cheeseburger. Also let us know what’s your criteria. Eg. Beef to bun ratio, bun integrity, juiciness, freshness etc.

  5. cajie says:

I mean make a table with 2 columns. First column is the restaurant name, and the second column is the rating. This will make it neat and tidy for anyone looking at the full list.
You’ve already done the hard work of putting it all in a summary. Just suggesting you format it to look more presentable.
A third (optional) column could contain some notes?.

  6. Mark says:

Cajie: That’s how it is now, on the left the restaurant name and on the right the rating

Realist: I doubt this challenge will end as long as burger places keep popping up. I also haven’t selected random burgers from the list but selected burgers I like. You will notice they’re mostly all cheese burgers. There is no beef to bun ratio or juiciness rating etc.. there is no formula, it’s a combination of things. You can’t say ok this beef patty is 1cm thick so that drops a point. Oh the moisture content in this bun is too high that drops it another point… each burger is different and needs to be treated in a different way.

    Mark

Smoke House Steakhouse burger got 4.5 stars in the article (very well deserved and my favorite burger in Kuwait by a long shot) but it’s showing 3.5 in your review summary.

  8. Mark says:

StuckInThe80′s: Read the whole article, the review was based on their original burger which I tried but they later changed their burger so I updated the article to reflect that. The new score is at the end of the article.

  9. Hi Mark,

Though I’m not a burger eater per se, I think your reviews are awesome.

I agree you can’t judge based on thickness, moisture, etc. It’s just about the overall satisfaction of the burger. I get that. I’m loving it!

When this venture is complete can we expect a ‘Best Salad in Kuwait’ review to take off the few pounds you might gain eating all those burgers? :)

It’s not a table, which is what I mentioned in the first comment.

  11. Mark says:

Cajie: Well the table wouldn’t add anything, you said names on left and score on right which I was able to achieve without the use of a table.

AmericanGirl: Best salad review doesn’t sound like a bad idea actually

  12. cajie says:

    *Sigh*

*Orders a McDonald’s double-cheese burger, which is the best burger anyway*

  13. RAZ says:

  14. Mark says:

Hey Raz: Sliders can’t enter the burger challenge but i might try it out anyway next time i pass by

  15. Desert Girl says:

The Meat Company’s burgers are now my favorite.

I actually loved fauchon’s burger. I found that it is one of the best in Kuwait and I’ve tasted all of the places you visited. The only other places with nice burgers are burger boutique, slider station, and the meat company. But fauchon is probably the best of them all.

  17. vampire says:

i believe from all the reviews, you now know how the best burger is made and will open your own burger place?!

enjoying the reviews,, keep them coming (^_^) “

    suggestion: try more hotels!
