the door did shake at around 12 something but i just thought that it was because of the AC or something

  16. Nobu says:

  21. BoBader says:

Wow… 5.7 is kind of large. The amount of energy released by the 5.7M is almost 2000 time that of 3.7M. Nothing in the news about it though.

  22. Daddy's Girl says:

    12:53?

I was wide awake. walking around in my living room? didnt feel anything la first time it happened last year wala this time?

Maybe our area is earthquake free?! Although a frirnd of mine from an adjacent area said she felt the room sway the last time?

Though would love experience it 7safa :(

  23. Mimi says:

How come our earthquakes always happen at night? I’m a deep sleeper :(

  24. Shoxin says:

Erm no such thing as an earthquake free area to be honest, you probably got lucky.

Still, earthquakes are a common thing, should be fine (sometimes) if you don’t go stick your head out of the window or get out of your house/apartment to ‘examine’ the situation first hand.

Are the buildings in Kuwait designed to withstand earthquakes? >_>

  25. NsR says:

wow, so its not only L.A thats bene gettin a piece of this fround shakes huh ;p

i felt the one here in L.A ;p it knocked me off my bed at 11:45am !! ;p i remember cuz the alarm clock also got knocked off next to me ;p

    yesssssss…we felt it

  27. fadibou says:

its iran drilling to steal kuwaiti oil maybe.

  28. mojojojo says:

are there any kuwaiti scientists working on earthquake prediction?

  29. Zeus says:

wasn’t no earthquake it was me.

  30. SP says:

i live in mahboula kuwait and felt it around 1:00 am. i was getting ready for bed, brushing my teeth, when i thought i had moved the sink! i stood back and watched the door swing a bit on it’s hinge ever so slightly. i thought maybe it was just ’cause the dryer was going in the bathroom so i stood in every room and felt the movement. i live on the top floor so i was like either this building is about to collapse or there’s a minor earthquake.

  31. F4P says:

what?! there was an earthquake!…i was sleeping didnt feel anything….

  32. Latifa says:

My friend told me about that, she lives in Hawalli.

  33. Greg says:

Our building in Salmiyah swayed quite noticeable at 00:45am. I also thought that I was shaking because I have been on the laptop too long, but when i got up, the curtains also moved and a few hairline cracks appeared in my walls.

I had a good laugh at th eother posts but……….HOW PREPARED ARE WE HERE IN KUWAIT FOR A BIGGER ONE. I realised that I did not know the safest zone in my flat or on my floor (8th floor, Top of the building). This made me very unsettled, and yes,……….I am not sleeping naked anymore. What if I have to run out quickly? (lol) (I wonder if they will still stare like they stare when I am in clothes)

  34. shoukat says:

I felt it too in salmiya.. but i was not sure that it is earthquake.. thank God.

  36. uturn says:

Kuwait is not an active earthquake zone, chill people.

In the last 100 years there was no major E.Q. only shock waves from the active line in the Zagros mountains of Iran.

  37. holla says:

How come i always miss this shit? Man even earthquakes in kuwait are weak and lame.

  38. Bow n Arrow says:

lol, I was too out of it to notice. After not sleeping for almost 36 hours, I was already having internal “shock waves” :p

  39. iRise says:

    La walla? That’s pretty scary….

  40. Missed it yet again. *sigh* There’s always next time, though.

  41. BoBader says:

    Shoxin

Buildings in Kuwait are typically designed to withstand forces cause by at least 90 mph wind. The reason why they are designed for wind and not earthquake is because based on regional and geological information and structural calculations, the wind forces are almost always greater that seismic forces. Furthermore, our buildings structural systems in Kuwait are not detailed the same way buildings in earthquake areas are detailed, such as in CA. However, this doesn’t mean that all will collapse during an earthquake. If a major earthquake hit Kuwait, god forbids, probably 15 to 20% of building might collapse (old and poorly constructed buildings) and more than 50% might be damaged beyond repair (This is based on my experience and research I have done over the years).

PS. In case of an earthquake people make a terrible mistake. They start running out of buildings. The right thing to do is stay away from hanging objects and windows taking cover below tables. and wait until shaking stops before leaving the building.

  42. SP says:

Yes I felt it too.I woke up with a start when my bed room door squeaked. Then the wind chime started to move and sounded loudly.Next the bed shook which made me jump out of it, gather my wallet and passport and get ready to run out in case if it happened again.Hope it would not repeat tonite.Have a safe night!

  43. Pure says:

    @ fadibou, hahahaaa .. that’s a good one : p

  44. SP says:

Are u sure BoBader about not running out of the building in case of an earthquake?I remember reading somewhere that one must run out of the building if earthquake happens because earthquakes dont kill.It is the building and its material falling over that causes casualties.

  45. Dandoona says:

Ya, i felt it, i was in bed, i was shaking for half minute, it was weak, this is my 2nd time to feel an AQ, it feels like about 4 degree R.

  46. Hyder says:

    Hmm… where was I?

  47. mohamed says:

There was 4 earthquakes in kuwait this summer one of them was an 8.2 buy it lasted for a very short time!
