Are u sure BoBader about not running out of the building in case of an earthquake?I remember reading somewhere that one must run out of the building if earthquake happens because earthquakes dont kill.It is the building and its material falling over that causes casualties.

Yes I felt it too.I woke up with a start when my bed room door squeaked. Then the wind chime started to move and sounded loudly.Next the bed shook which made me jump out of it, gather my wallet and passport and get ready to run out in case if it happened again.Hope it would not repeat tonite.Have a safe night!

Shoxin

Buildings in Kuwait are typically designed to withstand forces cause by at least 90 mph wind. The reason why they are designed for wind and not earthquake is because based on regional and geological information and structural calculations, the wind forces are almost always greater that seismic forces. Furthermore, our buildings structural systems in Kuwait are not detailed the same way buildings in earthquake areas are detailed, such as in CA. However, this doesn't mean that all will collapse during an earthquake. If a major earthquake hit Kuwait, god forbids, probably 15 to 20% of building might collapse (old and poorly constructed buildings) and more than 50% might be damaged beyond repair (This is based on my experience and research I have done over the years).

PS. In case of an earthquake people make a terrible mistake. They start running out of buildings. The right thing to do is stay away from hanging objects and windows taking cover below tables. and wait until shaking stops before leaving the building.

Kuwait is not an active earthquake zone, chill people.

In the last 100 years there was no major E.Q. only shock waves from the active line in the Zagros mountains of Iran.

Our building in Salmiyah swayed quite noticeable at 00:45am. I also thought that I was shaking because I have been on the laptop too long, but when i got up, the curtains also moved and a few hairline cracks appeared in my walls.

I had a good laugh at the other posts but..........HOW PREPARED ARE WE HERE IN KUWAIT FOR A BIGGER ONE. I realised that I did not know the safest zone in my flat or on my floor (8th floor, Top of the building). This made me very unsettled, and yes,..........I am not sleeping naked anymore. What if I have to run out quickly? (lol) (I wonder if they will still stare like they stare when I am in clothes)
