soon quality net DSL at home for me:) about time!!

  2. Aziz says:

and they’re blocking myspace too now.

  3. Marzouq says:

Ok thats just stupid! Its like being at Itisalat!

  4. KtheKuwaiti says:

I am on FastTelco; YouTube/MySpace works fine. (BTW, qualitnet?)

  5. Mark says:

I am on FT, youtube and myspace blocked.

  6. Ramsey says:

I’m on FT now and they are not blocked. However, my FT connection at home blocks them. Fucking weird.

  7. Ramsey says:

Oh, and apparently at home FT has blocked not only Youtube, but Livejournal and Myspace.

If I recall correctly, Myspace is rated in the top ten most popular sites in the world, with MSN, Yahoo and Google. So are they going to start blocking Google?

And from what I know, there are tons of Myspace users in Kuwait. Fucking complain to them guys! I did, I called them and gave them shit. Hopefully they’ll wake the hell up.

  8. bo_ghazi says:

I’m using FT & just cheked.. none of those sites are blocked!

  9. Ashish says:

Fuck censorhip and entities that endorse it.

  10. WhoDunnIt says:

I saw this poster at Ibn Khaldun… QualityNet now offers 5 weeks (unlimited hours) (DialUp) for KD 5.000; as opposed to FastTelcos 30 days unlimited for the same price.

  11. Marzouq says:

hahahaha! FT is screwing up again! Thankg god I changed our company’s connection to Kems! no problems with them!

  12. Aziz says:

OK, while ago I started a plan hopefuly it might help a little bit:

1- Call FT and complain, complain and compain.
2- Pray that al SanOsi would die an awful death.
3- Contact news papers and complain.

  13. KtheKuwaiti says:

Dude, I am on FT .. none of those sites are blocked!

  14. Mark says:

    you’re lucky then

  15. KtheKuwaiti says:

    Aziz,

Al-Sanosi has nothing to do with FTs filtering servers going on the blitz. There is no reason to wish death on man because some website don’t work. If you are that passionate about visiting myspace; then I suggest you seek help.

  16. moocherx says:

wishing death for no reason? must be a Mus…

    off the point.

Isn’t it up to the government which sites get blocked? I can’t figure out why some companies are CHOOSING to block sites, rather than remain in-line the government requirements.

Self-censorship just results in losing customers.

  17. WhoDunnIt says:

Maybe all of their proxies haven’t been configured to block the sites. Or p’haps the rules differ for Dialup/DSL.

  18. Ri says:

Did you know that Jewaira’s Boudoir is also being blocked by Fasttelco? That’s fucking insane.

  19. Toxy says:

    GUYS, DON’T PANIC.

I spoke with the FT guys…they are using a new filter and some sites are getting blocked accidentally. They blocked microsoft.com the other day.

    Don’t fret….it’s no big deal.

  20. Aziz says:

fuck them and their new filter.

  21. Aziz says:

KtheKuwaiti, According to FT and Qualitynet, they block sites that come to them from the MO Information. That ministry is run by a big ass called Sanosi, who also worked very hard to stop Kuwaiti channels from broadcasting but failed cuz they use NileSat.
That same ass I’m talking about who support the new media law which allow people to go to prison for writing whats on their minds in the news papers.
that same ass who sent the director of al sha3b web magazine to jail only because he pointed that Boodi said something offensive at CSPAN and supported it with proof (they said by showing the offensive proof, he’s being offensive him self!!!!!!!!!!)

  22. Marzouq says:

Aziz: The MOI has nothing to do with the blocking since they have no clue how it works and how its being implemented, and they wouldnt know how to operate it. Both FT and Qnet have different filtering systems! So FT is just screwing up like usual, and whoever told you its MOI is talking out of his ass!

the law thing is stupid though, but you should do something about it instead of wishing death on them!

  23. jajajaja says:

don’t try united networks, even tho they are 1/2 the usual price and pretty much fast, STABILITY is something they’ve never heard off

  24. moocherx says:

Kuwait has NO internet censorship issues.

    http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=17177&Valider=OK

    Try to find Kuwait…

  25. Aziz says:

Marzouq, FT keep saying they get a list of what should be blocked from the MOI. I heard that at least a dozen of times. They might be lying? dunno.
And here is another sick thing, peer to peer is also not allowed and they’re going to block it!

but anyways… I can’t believe that people running FT are hiring retards. seriously, block whole myspace.com for one stupid person posting a silly picture? or blocking youtube cuz a guy posted a video about the Emir?! just block the damn page, not the whole site.

  26. asmaa says:

    + torrentspy.com !!!!!!

  27. unknown says:

most of the torrents site are blocked as well

I really don’t know what the hell FT is still doing, any site they didn’t block yet?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they blocked blogs as well
    this is bullshit !!!!!

  28. Tan Go says:

still available on kems.net, for now…

  29. Patrick says:

maybe they should just keep myspace.com blocked, they’ll actually be helping.

  30. moocherx says:

    Patrick, that’s not fair.
It might result in a glut of retarded people walking the streets. Or worse, driving on them.

  31. Aziz says:

hey…. those emos your talking about are my friends :\

  32. 3baid says:

Last time they blocked flickr, one of the employees said it was a database problem :/

  33. Patrick says:

Moocherx, maybe they need to be driven on ;)

  34. CyberRowdy says:

no probs with qnet… the funny part is that they dont block proxies…LOL…

  35. Hashim says:

Every ISP has it’s pros and cons. Take my ISP for example, United Networks block sites such as Student.com and FaceParty.com (community sites like MySpace.com and Hi5.com) and keep sites such as Skins.be available for all. See the irony. =/

  36. Talal says:

Is etisalat breaking into the Kuwaiti ISP market? lol

God Bless America and the freedom of f***ing speech.

  37. moocherx says:

MySpace has just been bought by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.

So the whole “losing the freedom of speech” is a moot point anyway.

  38. Haxx0red says:

Isn’t remotely possible that some internal employee is just playing around with us ?

Remember that months ago some FT users didn’t have any filtering while others did, it seem they have a couple of badly managed servers.

  39. Aziz says:

Haxx0red, it feels like there is some ass surfing the net looking for pictures of his relative that were uploaded by ‘her ex boyfriend’ … those pictures ended up at imageshack.us, myspace, putfile, youtube and other websites (including blogs) … and since they have no idea how to get those pix off. they simply block the whole sites. their filter is so stupid, that this is the only *rational* reason I could’ve come up with!!!

  40. Nass64 says:

    Re: moocherx | September 21st, 2006 at 1:53 pm

“Kuwait has NO internet censorship issues.

    http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=17177&Valider=OK

    Try to find Kuwait…”

    — If you seriously belive this, you have serious problems. Just because it is not on this list that you found somewhere doesn’t mean anything.

  41. moocherx says:

Nass64…. sometimes I make my points using irony. I know this is a peculiarly British thing, but I just can’t help myself.

  42. KtheKuwaiti says:

Even if people block p2p .. there are still ways to bypass the block (read: enrcypted connections). As for the MOI .. they don’t mandate the list of blocked sites. The ISPs purchase a list from a central database. The MOI can request that certain site be blocked .. but don’t expect that going through.

Al-Sanousi is not the one who creates the laws .. he is merely a puppet like the majority of other Ministers. Cut him some slack and place the blame were it belongs.

  43. burp says:

burp … scratches ass …. myspace works fine for me. so do the others ….

  44. Raine says:

What I do not understand are the hysterical, knee jerk reactions. The commentors’ cussing out of everyone and the immediate negative vibes that go around! Did anyone even bother to call Fastelco to see what the problem is? I did. There was an explanation. If you do not like it, then you can choose to opt out and go to a different provider. But conspiracy theories and hysteria do not do anyone any good. We as Arabs should have learned this lesson by now!!! Stop the apathy and complaining and opt for rational, critical thinking and action.

  45. Toxy says:

Raine, what explanation did you get?

I was told that the block was a mistake and it would be back working again within 24 hours. Is there something I should know!?

    Please let us know. Thanks!

  47. souly says:

Etisalat called Fast Teleco and said…

Hey, why not block these sites…

Etisalat blocked hi 5 for god’s sake!

  48. equalizer says:

If Fasttelco or others want to block, then let them offer that to customers that want the protection. Make it an option for those that don’t want their kids to waste time on sites they beleive are not appropriate. That way everyone is happy, instead of having to go through proxies that will still allow people to see what they want.

  49. nxman says:

    This is hell!
