Fire at Al Hamra Tower… Tomorrow

Tomorrow their will be a huge fire on the 61st floor of the Al Hamra Tower which is the soon to be tallest building in Kuwait. I can’t see the future but a reader emailed me telling me they will be testing the firefighting capabilities tomorrow. I didn’t quite understand if they will be testing the actual firefighters capabilities to fight a fire in a high-rise or if they’re testing the fire readiness of the building. In any case if you see smoke tomorrow you know why.

Thanks Ba3ks

Update: The exercise took place today but I don’t have any pictures so if you do send it in.

The Kuwait Fire Department will be testing their capabilities to attend to a fire and perform an evacuation in a high rise building DURING construction.

An official from the fire department will visit the site to check that the fire detection and management systems are in order…this is a prerequisite to project handover from contractors to landlords. Once the whole building is cleared by FD, then Municipality will come in to check that the building is as per code and design. When all clearance certificates/letters are obtained and the building is declared structurally and technically fit for occupation, landlord can in turn handover to tenants.

Mark, i just got off the phone with one of the heads at Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Company who are currently building the tower and he told me that the fire was set today and has already been done, It was just to check if the fire fighters could get to the top on time and put the fire off.
