First Impression: iPhone 3GS
My iPhone 3GS arrived today from Australia and I’ve been playing with it for over an hour now. I am upgrading from the original (2G) iPhone since I never saw a reason to upgrade to the 3G. The 3GS on the other hand had a decent amount of improvements that was worth upgrading to. Here are my impressions so far:
- It is literally twice as fast compared to my previous iPhone. My favorite game Fast Food boots up much much quicker than before
- Love the new smudge proof screen
- I got internet tethering working which means I can use my iPhone like an eGO
- Can’t get MMS to work (never mind just work, APN, username and pass should be pps)
- Voice command surprisingly easy and fun to use. I just talk to my iphone as if its my secretary and it understands commands like cancel or what band is this? when music is playing
- I don’t like the plastic back of the new iphones, I prefer the older aluminum
- 3G is faster than edge, finally I can browse at decent speeds. The BBC low graphics site now loads instantly and every link I click loads in under a second
So basically the new iPhone 3GS is a great step up from the original one. The OS speed difference, the 3G, GPS and the tethering were all worthy enough reasons for me to upgrade.

Congrats Mark. Just interested to how much Zain, Wataniya, and Viva charging for 3G data access now? I remember back in 2004 I used to pay around 16KD a month for GPRS with Zain (MTC back then)! I guess I will have to jailbreak my iPhone when I come back to Kuwait in December :)
10. Mark | July 27th, 2009 at 12:12 am
I pay KD13 or KD13.5 not sure

it’s too bad the ’smudge proof’ screen wears off in a while.
12. Mark | July 27th, 2009 at 12:33 am
it doesn’t wear off. The incident you read about on gizmodo or engadget was an isolated case.

mabrouk mark……from where i can get it in usa? cuz ill travel in 10 days…and not sure about the stores there….is it available in apple stores or best buy or at&t?unlocked ?…thanx
14. BJ | July 27th, 2009 at 2:51 am
ohyeah: Don’t buy it from the States man, it will be a waste since you got to software unlock the thing and that means no push notifications and from what I saw issues with MMS. When you get back to Kuwait order it from the girl Mark posted about on his blog that lives in Australia.

Sorry! I realized that I did not include page link. Here’s it again
http://360dewan.wordpress.com/2009/06/25/zain-iphone-ready-setting-mms-gprs-and-tethering/
About Wataniya setting, it was created but no one has tested it. We will try post it again
Viva setting is also available but according to the tester Viva had issues with iPhone
28. Mark | July 27th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
I do not recommend using the link itsallg000d just posted. You need to restore your iphone to get tethering and mms etc.. setup.
If you use this link in your iPhone browser:
http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig/
You don’t need to restore or anything of that sort. Its much more practical and you don’t need a computer to do it.
29. SpiKeY | July 27th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Mark…you do not need to restore the iphone if you use the link in 360 dewans blog. It will only change the settings. As for the website you used it will use the same settings for the gprs and the mms which will not work out good.
My ipcc file that i provided to 360 dewan works fine.
30. Mark | July 27th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
I had to change the MMS settings to pps for everything.

32. ma7 | July 27th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
mark, mms settings are not pps for everything! try to send it won’t work!
use these settings for Zain:
Zain (Kuwait)
Homepage: http://kw.zain.com
APN: pps
Username: annyway
Password: online
MMSC: 176.0.0.21
Proxy: 176.0.0.65:8080
33. Mark | July 27th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
ma7 i was able to send only when i changed them from what you posted to pps for apn, username and pass.
34. Holla | July 27th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
a problem i came across was that when i have MMS on and go to sent a group SMS, it forces it into group MMS and fails. is there a fix for this dumb shit?
35. Spikey | July 27th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Holla yes… The ipcc i provided removes the group mms feature to make it group sms.
You can find it on 360 dewan blog

I have Wataniya line; I couldn’t configure my iPhone 3Gs to the Internet setting!
And this is my 1st device from iPhone
Is there is anybody could you guide me to fix my device configuration?
50. Dejaviewer | August 16th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Hello guys, I received my iPhone 3Gs reverently from Italy, I have many friends with (Zain) using the Internet connection in their iPhone 3Gs without any problem.
However, I’m Wataniya customer and couldn’t configure my iPhone 3Gs to the Internet setting!
I tried to Google it the setting but I couldn’t find the proper setting.
iPhone 3Gs owner knows to the Internet setting takes many steps and to configure the device properly!
Is there is anybody could you guide me to fix my device configuration?
