First Impression: Oral B Triumph 9900 Toothbrush with Smart Guide

Yeah its a long name but it helps with the geek factor. I’ve been wanting the Oral B Triumph for some time now but the local dealer never got the one I wanted which comes with the Smart Guide.

What is the Smart Guide? The Smart Guide is the little device that’s pictured above. Your toothbrush connects to it wirelessly and transmits various information about your brushing technique to help you brush properly while also making it more fun. First off it tells you how much time to spend on each quadrant of your teeth before shifting to the next one. It also tells you if you’re applying the right amount of pressure onto your teeth or gums by flashing a warning when it thinks you’re being too rough. Finally and most importantly, when you are done brushing correctly you get a smiley face on the Smart Guide as a reward. The live feedback system while brushing made me want the Triumph since I like information even if its coming from a toothbrush.

The price of the regular Triumph is KD42 in Kuwait after discount but it DOESN’T come with the Smart Guide. On Amazon the Triumph WITH the Smart Guide is for only KD34. I picked up the KD50 special edition version which comes with 2 tooth brushes and 2 Smart Guides, one for me and one for Nat which saved me a bundle. Will post a more in depth review once I get to use it for awhile.

I have had one of these for quite a while now off amazon….. one of the brushes has yellow plastic things on it that at high or low speeds kinda rips the gums after a while of brushing… It does have a safety feature that warns you if you are pressing too hard but you really have to push for that to go on… But in the end using all 3 brushes and the tongue scraper does get the job done :)

All sounds a bit Ann Summers to me……………..”yellow plastic things”…..’a safety feature”……”tongue scraper”……..is there any body cream involved?

Mark, two words : Philips Sonicare

    Research it.

Already did, their products are on Amazon. Prices are similar to Oral B but didn’t find anything interesting. As I mentioned I got this because of the Smart Guide, it makes brushing more fun. Sonicare works like regular electric toothbrushes, boring ;)

Braun just updated this baby – it’s now called triumph 5000 and has 6 brush heads and a DVD in the box – besides the traval adapter, the smart guide (now with 5 brush modes) and a travel case.

MailMeDental: Its the same toothbrush just the EU version. There were many different US models also that came with multiple brushes but they also cost more.

ouffffffffffffffff whatever next…..perhaps there will be some device for washing your bottom………whatever is happening to common sense and plain instruction from your dentist….must have money to burn!!!

Won’t help much if it doesn’t improve your smile :)

  21. 21. Mark | June 9th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

rose: first of all there is a device to wash your bottom that old news. There is nothing wrong in seeking a better way to brush your teeth. Why hate something that is more healthy?

  22. 22. Anonymous | June 10th, 2009 at 1:29 am

You’re just into gizmos, there’s nothing more healthy about it.

  23. 23. Mark | June 10th, 2009 at 9:25 am

How could better brushing not be healthy?

    Hey Mark,

I’ve been wanting to get one of those. They’re really hard to find here. I had the basic one in the States and loved it! People who knock it haven’t tried it. And it has been proven to work better than regular brushing.
My question is : Is it 110V-240V??
Also, maybe somebody knows this. If I were to get the Sonicare, do they have the replacement heads here? I haven’t seen them at places like Carrefour and Sultan. Haven’t looked really hard though.
    Thanks

    Its 110-240

that is a great choice..! i’ve been using Oral B electric tooth brush for over 10 years now.! this by far is the best ! the brush size is slightly larger and it polishes too…
you’ll notice the difference after week ..u can feel how smooth and clean ur teeth wud b with ur tongue…

i definitely recommend this for everyone

    enjoy…! :)
