Green Grass

I was at Souk Sharq when I noticed their beautiful grass. It looked perfect all nice and green on a very hot sunny day. But sadly, on closer inspection it turned out the grass was fake, a really good fake. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t real until I pulled up the grass from one of the edges to reveal its carpet like application.

good. We’re learning from our mistakes. After 40 years of planting grass and watching it burn we’ve finally learnt that the fake stuff is best in this environment.

Now everywhere you go you’ll see this fake grass, while I was driving in Rouwda I saw them removing the real grass and replace fake one.

It’s good to see our Kuwait going green !

and its really nice when spraying water on it in the afternoon… a friend of mine has it in their house, thinking about putting it here instead of our real barely-grown grass!

dont play soccer on this grass with the lapcheen shoes or what ever you call those shoes with the spikes, the traction is very strong that when my brother was playing on it and tried to turn quickly his whole body turned except from his knee down… a couple of hours later he woke up high from the anesthesia after his operation where they had to put a couple of nails in his leg the keep the bone in place so it can heal…
    just advising you not too…

  12. 12. J | June 30th, 2009 at 3:05 am

Sometimes they use small black pellets in them to help traction and ‘filter’ it i believe, but yeah, also dont go for sliding tackles on it, you can get one real nasty rug burn

    This is quite pathetic actually.

Well, most of the private football fields use the same artificial grass here for a while now. It’s good to see it spreading beyond the fields, it’s expensive but doesn’t need that much maintenance.

    Hey Guys,

    FYI.

A Company called “United Sports Company” has done the Fake grass job in Sharq. They have been using these sort of the grass in almost all their projects. They do a good job: Installation as well as after sale services.

If this grass was in Hawally City i bet it may stand a (24 hours) without stealing it and making it a doormats.. lol

  22. 22. Bu Yousef | June 30th, 2009 at 11:18 am

It’s horrible! I’ve seen it in Mishref too. The ‘dirt’ is to keep it standing upright. I prefer the real stuff.

  23. 23. Mark | June 30th, 2009 at 11:25 am

I prefer real grass also but I guess if I had to choose between fake grass and sand I would go with fake grass.

  25. 25. Ansam | June 30th, 2009 at 11:56 am

Its from Abyat! I have seen it… its so soft and feels like real grass and is about KD12-13 per sq meter! We have it in one place at home!

They are also putting some of it in Rawda (a KD 40K tender to make Rawda area greener)

  26. 26. Ozy | June 30th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

weve got real grass in ahmadi that looks tip-top.

  27. 27. asd | June 30th, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Well its good,in the desert you need not spend money to water them. This way you can conserve water !

  28. 28. Marzouq | July 1st, 2009 at 12:07 am

It all depends where you get it from, there are different manufacturers..

I honestly think that its better for overall look and feel of the side of the roads, some areas might benefit from real ones but for overall maintenance costs these are better!

  29. 29. ahmed | July 1st, 2009 at 11:13 am

It is especially designed and made for areas where natural grass is difficult to grow or where upkeep is impractical – due to water restrictions

    this grass is FieldTurf Grass

it looks like grass.. feels like grass.. plays like grass..
