IMAX: Journey to Mecca
Starting from the 26th of March The Scientific Center will be playing the new IMAX film called Journey to Mecca. I first heard about this movie from a blogger called Ahmad who posted about his experience on the movie set as a camera assist. Well the movie is now completed and it will be premiering in Kuwait on Thursday. Here is the synopsis I was sent:
Journey to Mecca is an IMAX dramatic and documentary feature that tells the amazing story of Ibn Battuta, the greatest explorer of the Old World, following his first pilgrimage between 1325 and 1326 from Tangier to Mecca. His perilous journey resonates with adventure while presenting an unforgettable picture of Islamic civilization during the 14th century, culminating with Ibn Battuta’s first Hajj. The story is book-ended by a close-up look at the contemporary Hajj, a pilgrimage to Mecca that draws three million Muslims from around the world. English narration of the film is done by Ben Kingsley, the acclaimed and internationally renowned actor.
I was also sent a timetable for the movie times which you can download as a pdf by clicking [Here]
Here is a link to the trailer. [Link]
The price of the ticket is KD3 for adults and KD2 for children.
I’ve never been to an IMAX movie yet but one movie I do want to watch that luckily is still playing at The Scientific Center is Fires of Kuwait. I’ve been wanting to watch the documentary ever since it got released back in 1992 and I still haven’t watched it!
Thanks Hind!

Fires of Kuwait is nice. We had it when it first came out on the Laser Disc but I’m sure it will be ten times better on the imax.

My buddy Ahmad was really excited about this project so I’m sure it’s well worth it!
As for the documentary Fires of Kuwait: I have grown so much respect to Hungarians after watching that documentary. Watch it and you’ll know why.

Sorry to be off topic… check out the link below. I use IE V6 at work. I have FireFox at home, I don’t remember if the ads are showing up where they need to be with Firefox. I’ll let you know.
Ads look good in the main page but once you go to a single post, they get screwed up or did you do that on purpose? Again, that’s on IE V6.

I’ve watched so many IMAX movies there; but the one I always wanted to watch (Fires of Kuwait) simply seems to elude me.

man you’ve never been to an imax movie before? are you kidding me?
I advice you to go, its a very nice experience that makes you ‘feel’ like you’re in the movie. I’ve seen many movies in Kuwait’s Imax cinema, the last one about Ocean dinosaurs called Ocean Odyssey.

The Fires of Kuwait is awesome. You don’t just feel the fire, you are deafened by it. When you come out, you have a thorough appreciation of how tough that time in Kuwait was.

Can’t wait to go watch it myself! The guys at the Scientific Centre should realize they are on to a good thing and start marketing bottled Zamzam water and Mecca Cola to mark the screening of the Journey to Mecca.
Peace

Speaking of marketing gimmicks the Awkaf Affairs dudes should put up a tent outside the theatre selling among other things white umbrellas, and abridged versions of the Holy Book ( preferably translated into English as well) which you can take with you when you do the real thing. Equally, a concession for ihrams would be fantastic.

For anyone who has seen it, could you please tell me if the Audio is in English or Arabic? If Arabic, are there English subtitles?
(The reason I ask is that the trailer on the Kuwait Scientific Center website is in Arabic.)
Thx!
