It’s the new Athlete’s Foot

So today morning I received an email telling me that PUMA and Nike were both opening stores in the next few days and two images of the interiors were attached. After corresponding with the sender some more it turns out the stores were actually opening today and that they were in fact individual stores inside the new Athlete’s Foot in The Avenues. So for lunch I decided to pass by and check it out.

The Athlete’s Foot store is located near Va Va Voom. The entrance is around two stores wide but the place is really deep. It’s not as big as GoSport which is humongous but its still around 3 to 4 times the size of Foot Locker. When you first walk in to the place its your typical Athlete’s Foot but after you climb a few steps the store gets divided into 3 smaller stores, a Nike store, a Puma store and an Adidas store (hey are separated by transparent plastic walls).

The Nike section sadly is nowhere as big as the Nike store in the Mall of the Emirates but it’s better then nothing I guess.

Kuwait will have to wait for ‘Mall of Kuwait’ to open to have a exclusive Nike showroom , because existing Sports compay’s are using ‘wasta’ to stop them from entering business . recently a famous Mall in Salmiya refused to allocate shop to Nike dealers because there are already enough sports shops in that mall.[ thats so lame ]

Can you believe that ‘Nike” being denied ?

are you doing to stop being a dickhead?

  6. 6. Mark | July 30th, 2007 at 7:04 pm

Swoosh I doubt that is true, its more like a myth. What I was told and I mentioned this in my previous post is that Nike wants to own their stores. In Kuwait they can’t do that because they need a kafeel.

  7. 7. Swoosh | July 30th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

The dealers of Nike are a Dubai based company , they don’t need a Kafeel here in Kuwaitt becuse the owner there is a Emarati who doesnt need a Kuwaiti partner in Kuwait as a GCC citizen he can do business in Kuwait without a partner . Just as in Marks & Spencer where Mr Futtaim himself is the Kafeel in Kuwait as well .
Mark I have enormous respect for you , may be at times you dont know few things , all you have to do is listen , and not be the judge if i am a dickhead or not .

I guess this is goodbye , you let me down.

Avenues cannot be everything the Mall of Emirates is, and neither can the MOE. For one thing, there are 10 times the number of visitors at the MOE as there are at the Avenues ( yeah, but hang on only phase 1 of the Avenues is completed). What can I say, Dubai is a tourist friendly country. It makes sense to have a much bigger Nike concept store there rather than in Kuwait where the word “tourist” or ” ajnabee” has come to mean a dirty seven letter word.

A Nike only store would be awesome, but I guess this is the closest we can get for now. I’ll be sure to stop by someday

BTW Swoosh that was probably directed at iMan.

I went there today and was really disappointed….the place recieved more publicity than what it really desereved.

They dont have the more upscale PUMA lines such as Barret,McQueen,Miraha.
the items there can be found at any athlete’s foot store be it sharq or marina or else where.

its a bit strange to see how there is such concern in kuwait over what shops open where and what products they sell/dont sell. im sure there are more worthwhile topics to discuss.

Mark ! i apologise , i realised that you were replying to IMAn only when i got off line . Then it was too late for me to comeback and post .
Anyways , “Nike Conspiracy” will always be there for Kuwait unless the existing sports comapny’s show some true sportsman ship and allow Nike to step in .

There is no need to fight over something like that…
    Its Ok
who cares if it owned by Kuwaiti or some form the Emirates…who cares if its an individual store of a devision.
All I care about is the quality and the prices of your favorite brand.
