KTM Magazine

I got a call earlier from KTM Magazine, I was pretty shocked at first since they called me up at my office. Its really freaky, I mean I know I don’t try to be anonymous but I also don’t make it that easy for people to find out who I am. Anyway turns out the guy found out where I worked because he recognized my office from a picture I once posted. He called the office, asked for me and I answered the phone.

So I spoke to him for a few minutes and he wants to meet me to discuss having me write for them. Their office is like right next door so I am going to pass by them tomorrow. I know KTM when it was called Kuwait This Month and it was a pretty crappy magazine back then but since they rebranded to just KTM I haven’t picked up an issue yet. I might pass by a magazine stand tonight and pick one up just to see if it has gotten any better. Oh a funny thing is, the guy was like I know Bazaar approached you before and you rejected their offer but we appreciate our writers and we will make you a better one. I was like that sounds cool. Will see what happens tomorrow.

    Glossy magazine. That’s all I know :)
Anyway, if you start writing, let us know. I may be tempted to pick up a copy.

I applied for a job there over 3 years ago, but they offered me a very small salary. Hopefully that has changed…

If you’re in kuwait and enjoy writing, submitting it for a magazine’s a good idea. But if you consider writing a career, here’s not the place to do it because the value of the work is either not appreciated, or there’s too much competition from expats which results in lower fees.

just for the record and for you to keep in mind, bazaar appreciates its writers very much and not once in 10 years was it late paying its writers or did it not step up to defend its writers when need be.Every writer on the team from 15 year olds in school,to professional writers that also write for news papers in kuwait and abroad,to the many bloggers from all over the world that contribute, all of them receive their payment within one week of publication. Also, please keep in mind that when a magazine is free and distributes 20,000 copies all over the country in its own stands (more that 200) that costs an arm and a leg unlike magazines that are on a news stand for sale. And finally, when you were asked to contribute to bazaar it was to provide content that was already on your blog, so it was a simple copy paste procedure.Nothing new or original that was going to cost you time or money. We are always looking for news on whats up and whats new,and we are always looking for ways to encourage people to write.Having you in bazaar would achieve both these things because you have quite a following and have a knack for sourcing interesting news.

I’d figured as much… I guess humour isn’t my thing.

bazaar: actually i was told to submit any 4 or 5 reviews every month related to Kuwait. Since I dont write 4 or 5 reviews every month related to Kuwait that would have meant I would have had to write them specifically for Bazaar.

Submitting content thats already from my blog would mean that you would choose 4 or 5 posts and publish them but thats not what you asked from me.

KTM is still around? They offered me something like KD10/article back in the day. I politely declined.

    Whatever happened to Kuwait Life?

And how come I can never find Bazaar in AlKout anymore?

  15. 15. Mark | July 19th, 2006 at 3:02 pm

I think they stopped for a while and then came back rebranded. I am guessing they wont offer me KD10 since that would be less then Bazaar.

Q8Life shut down right after they rebranded which was weird. don’t know why though.

stinni, please drop us an email at bazaar@hotmail.com with ur work address and u will start to receive bazaar every month at work.We still have 2 stands in kout mall andanother one in starbucks al kout, but unfortunately they run out as soon as we refill the stand.

mark, just to clarify, our offer still stands and we dont mind you only submitting stuff that already appeared on your blog as long as there are high res images to go with them.
Why dont you give it a shot and decide based on the feedback you recieve. We would love to have ur reviews and snippits about kuwait on our pages as would our readers.
