Kuwaiti cops getting Ford Mustangs

5car5 just posted photos of a new Ford Mustang thats being prepped to join the local police department soon. The Mustang is supercharged and will have 500HP so it should be able to keep up with all the super cars out there. Who doesn’t want to be a cop now? Check out the 5car5 website for more pictures. 5. kwt23 | June 3rd, 2008 at 5:44 pm
believe me, some cops will use these supercharged mustangs in a bad way. Don’t u see the cops who try to hit on girls?! This will only get worse.
6. Bader | June 3rd, 2008 at 6:28 pm
this is an old rumor, its fake, not real. plus i have a ford mustang and its already hard to find someone who can tune it with mild performance parts such as headers and intakes, and these have superchargers so its even worse.
the mustang S197’s internals can’t support 500hp therefore internals would have to be changed which is REALLY expensive, plus the car is a 2 seater, sure there are 2 seats in the back that could barely fit someone average size. also the stock gearbox can’t support 500hp let alone all that torque thats gonna be produced.
most supercars can now reach upto speeds over 300km/h, the mustang’s top speed is 240km/h, true that it can go faster with the proper mods, but after 240km/h even with mods the speedometer would just increase at a much slower rate since the gear will be in overdrive.
if you think about how much the government has to spend, its ridicolous.
Mustang GT: 9000KD
supercharger: 1800 - 2000KD
internal replacements: 1000KD
Cold Air intakes: 100KD
Headers: 600KD
Transmission replacement: 800KD
so i don’t think the government will be paying around 15000KD for a car that can catch super cars and then not be able to arrest the guys due to nowhere to be kept in the car, the trunk is an option but ford also a has a special cable in the trunk to have the trunk open from the inside :p

8. Marzouq | June 3rd, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I’m assuming it isn’t going to happen, just like the Audi Police cars.. won’t be happening!
9. Mark | June 3rd, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Bader their BMW cop cars cost around 15,000KD
10. Bader | June 3rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm
yea but mark, when you come to think about it, BMW cop cars are MUCH more of use, they don’t need tuning, aren’t a gas guzzler, there is plenty of back space to put in criminals, and isn’t a hassle to service, but when it comes to a moded mustang, u have to put in mind the labour costs, and the high maintenance of the engine, plus the engine life would decrease rapidly if it was producing 500hp via forced induction and being used daily for long hours.
if the government wants a fast cop car, they could invest in a few high performance cars like the BMW M5, Audi RS4, saloon cars, sport cop cars aren’t fitted for kuwait, and something i learned, there is ALWAYS a faster car :p
oh and 1 more thing i forgot to say, 500hp requires major suspension upgrades sine the mustang S197’s current suspension is good for about 350hp :p so yea, u can add another 1000KD for that

a 500 BHP mustang is going to give a lot of cars a hard time, but its not going to keep up with a super car, or my definition of a supercar. This car is probably a stock mustang, which the agent is going to use to pitch a sale for the MOI. Most auto agents do that.
15. classy | June 4th, 2008 at 12:40 am
bosale7… but why are they choosing that kind of luxury cars ? why dont they spend the money with something more useful than cars !! there should be some priorities, right?
16. Bo-Bader | June 4th, 2008 at 1:41 am
Good… Now we have to worry about cops speeding as well!!
classy,
I read somewhere that the cost of police cars are almost the same whether it is Ford or Dodge Charger.
17. Damon Dash | June 4th, 2008 at 2:01 am
bosalae7 you’re the first guy that made an Arabic comment in here , congratulation lol
18. Kuwait | June 4th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Looks like the modifications on the car are still not complete. In the pic above, there’s no petrol tank lid and in the 4th pic, there’s no fairing above the right front wheel.
Imagine stuffing the bad guys at the back of a 2-door car.
19. RaZ | June 4th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Its probably a demo for different car dealers to show MOI the potential police cars they could make. I remember a couple of years ago they had a harley all policed out to show MOI but i gues BMW won tht battleprobably for the same reasons the BM should beat the Mustang
20. classy | June 4th, 2008 at 8:51 am
bo-bader, even though whats wrong with the old cars , it is better to raise the salaries, sa7 ? :)
21. gargoyle | June 4th, 2008 at 8:59 am
this mustang is made to catch super cars ?? well mustangs are heavy and too bulky so its a suped muscle car trying to catch super cars. would love to see it in a high speed chase with a zo6.
22. holla | June 4th, 2008 at 9:03 am

24. Ali | June 4th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
i think they intend to use it on outer city highways such as 7th ring road, wafra road, salmi, and abdeli to chase down guys who race and hustle.
25. Moe | June 4th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
hey Ali:
yeah probably it’s for those purpose and most likely the guys will try to run from them and end up more dead bodies :S from both sides..

California Highway Patrol used to use Mustangs and Cameros.
Statistically speaking, high speed chases usually end in the death of innocent people rather than the capture of criminals. So, yes, of course, it would make sense for the Kuwaiti police to engage in that type of activity - rather than allowing officers to enforce the law - say by allowing them to brandish weapons at suspects. Cops here can’t even take out their guns without permission.
I’m wondering how many Mustangs they are going to wreck in the process (how many cops will race them?). Why not buy police helicopters instead of chase vehicles?
But hey Al-Wazzan family - NICE marketing! Congratulations on that contract win. Cha CHING.
The problem with any smaller police vehicle (like BMW, Mustang or whatever) isn’t so much the back seat (you can call for another transport car), but the fact that you can’t do paperwork in it while you have a passenger in the other seat. If you have a computer in the car (laptop on the seat or dash-mount), it is impossible to have someone seated there. Most Kuwaiti details are 2-to-a-car.
30. Shoxin | June 4th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
So.. Can Lebanese people join the Kuwaiti police force? XD
31. Jim Sefton | June 4th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
LOL, If they are serious about catching a supercar on the run then they really need a helicopter. It’s a lot safer and has a much better chance of success. A Mustang hurtling round the busy streets at 150mph is recipe for disaster in my book. Would look cool though!
32. bo9agr | June 4th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
a mustang? as a cop? LoL !! more 3agad wanna join the force bc of this!
33. F. | June 4th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
They seriously don’t need anything else to boost their “cool” factor!
I hate the idea of cops
34. Salbader | June 4th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
The normal Ford Mustang was one of the most unstable sports cars ive ever driven.. i would advise you to get it if you like burnouts and donuts, but chasing youngsters at high speeds in a 500hp version !!!! ill be waiting to see this car bil sikrab this winter!
35. J | June 4th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Did the MOI just see Reno 911 or something ? =p
36. Celtic Hater | June 4th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
That is just stupid.
I’d have to agree with Desert girl AlWazzan must have serious connections with the government or super hypnotize`n skills to be able to convince them a mustang can catch a super car or is in anyway beneficial to the police force.
just imagine a body builder chasing a sprinter that’s just plain old stupid, though it would look real funny.
An rs4 or an M5 i can buy that but a mustang come on …. and i’d really really rather not see police chasing fast cars its too dangerous just call in for a road block or use a helicopter.
Lakers ALL THE WAY !!!
37. Owen | June 4th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Guys, who said these Mustang will b chasing racers boys..! I think
MOI will use it for 25/26 February.2009 in the karnaval show.
38. A.f | June 5th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Is this a police station or a car fashion show
39. abdallah | June 5th, 2008 at 12:05 am
dont believe everything you see this is a way to start a conversation with girls in the street when a cop asks a girl to pull over he will start talking to her and then she will ask him if that the police force will be driving on of these soon and then he will tell her its a long story we can talk it over the phone or the police are trying to convey a message to the citizien join the force and you will be driving one of these soon because as we notice the population in kuwait is increasing they need more kuwaities to join the force and if this is true not all of the police force will be driving the mustang only the people with was6a or with high ranks.
40. bumo | June 5th, 2008 at 12:34 am
Its an automatic!!!
its probably just a stunt like the UAE and thier fire fighting Corvette… it would look bad ass in black and white tho… kinda like baracade from transformers…
Holla, dont dis the live rear axil unless uve driven one, and if u couldnt handle it maybe there is something wrong with ur driving because contrary to popular belief in Kuwait, mustangs have a tonne of grip around corners and average 0.89g cornering, around the same as a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and Subi STi impreza… Plus with a live rear axil, u can launch at higher RPMs with more torque and not risk blowing your rear end, its old and cheap but it works and keeps going forever
41. 3baid | June 5th, 2008 at 3:46 am
Um.. but isn’t it illegal for the police to pursue a car here?
42. Meshari | June 5th, 2008 at 4:23 am
Ok, so people are making rules up by them selves, FIRST of all, this Mustang is modified, so Bader pay attention. the pictures on the website shows that it has a supercharger.
And most of you forgot something, this could be a Ford Shelby Mustang GT500, i’m saying maybe, though i think from the steering wheel that this is the Mustang GT, both cars are not worth the trust when it comes to stability, saw it before a few days after midnight at Damascus street,,, was the “red line” to me for getting a Shelby, American’s cars are no friend for stability, i saw a Brand new cobra upside down on the grass in between both roads.
As i know, the already took the Dodge, as my friend’s dad work in sales dept., some friend i saw today said that he saw the Audi in Mishref, though i heard that they didn’t take it.
43. jaz | June 5th, 2008 at 5:34 am
Its an Automatic Mustang GT… not a GT500… GT500’s don’t come with automatic transmissions Meshari.
So when i modify my Mustang its illegal, but if your a cop its legal for u to do whatever you want? This is not gonna go down well for cops and for the MOI public relations… Serious abuse of power.
The Dodge Charger had reliability problems with the breaks, i heard they sacked those.
