MOI: The role model driver competition

The Ministry of Information Interior has a competition to find the best driver in Kuwait. You can apply online and the grand prize is I think KD250.
To qualify you need to:

1) Own either a car or motorbike
2) Not have gotten any traffic violations between 07/31/2006 and 01/07/2007
3) Not have had any car accident between 07/31/2006 and 01/07/2007

To enter the competition visit the MOI website. [Link]

I am Am I the only one who finds this competition funny? Funny or not I am still going to sign up.

update: Imagine if the cops start recruiting drivers…

“Hi, sorry to pull you over but we’ve been tailing you for the past 30 minutes and we’ve noticed your driving skills are unparalleled. We would like you to consider signing up to the “Role Model Driver of the Year” competition because we think you have a strong chance of winning. What do you say?”

Yes, I find it funny in a country with as many traffic accidents and deaths as Kuwait has. But good for them they are trying to change that! This may be a stupid question but does a speeding ticket count as breaking the law? I think it would because it’s a traffic violation but I’m not sure.

I think it would fantastic if a woman won the competition ;)

so what if u sign up and get a ticket during the competition? do u have to pay the fine and also the prize value, 250KD on top? LOL

whats funny is that the time period is stupidly short,… its just 6 months?!

6 months accident/fine free does not a model driver make. surely it should have been atleast a year if not 2 or 5.

6 months just means you’ve been lucky that the cops were sleeping while tripple parked or the cameras were out of film or that bus drivers have been suffering a temporary crack cocaine drought.

250 KD? thats all? Yea, ok..

Skunk, 6 months means that u might get a camera ticket on the last month or something that doesn’t get entered into the computer till after the competition so u still win LOL.

actually u have to use some of the money u won to pay back the fine so they can still screw u.

Actually, I think it’s a great initiative by the concerned governing body. Think about it, people would now actually discipline themselves not to break the law and for a change, abide by it for the sake of competition. It’s more of a psychological influence of being competitive rather than the money being offered. I feel this ingenious strategy of their would definitely help in curbing the souring traffic violations and I would love to see some safer traffic flow in future.

If they increase the reward and offer it more often, then yes, people here might have an incentive to drive more carefully. I say a larger reward is a requirement because a lot of people here in this oil-rich country drive expensive cars (or most of the people who cause accidents) so 250 KD isn’t that appealing to these people, especially when they can showoff their hazardous driving skills to some cute girl on the road or get to their destinations faster by flooring the gas pedal.

It would be interesting to see if people driving their employer’s cars would be eligible to take part in this competition. A boost of 250 KD to their salary would certainly be an incentive to them and they would have a reason to turn down the requests to drive faster made by the snobby boys and girls ordering them to go here and there.

this is the MOI, 250 kd? blah, they should at least offer 1000 KD, in both cases they wont notice the money gone

decipher: dude, this is Kuwait not Japan, we don’t have a competitive society in here

Only 250!!! That’s what an oil rich state can pay? It should have been atleast 750 or a thousand!
    P.S:- Are pocket bikes allowed?

Some Kuwaiti will win it, like every other 1st place winner in a contest in kuwait. Hell, Kuwaitis always won the KPTC contests, but I have rarely ever seen one in the bus.

wana bet that an expat would win the contest and not a kuwaiti? i bet KD5,000. =)

    I submitted my entry.

Actually, since it was all in Arabic, I just filled in whatever made sense to me and hit the button. It gave me some message and then closed the bloody Explorer!!

So I am not sure if it accepted my entry or not.

I don’t find it funny at all Mark. It would be funny if such a competition was held in Lebanon. Most likely the minority opposition would require to have a third of the contestants to be from their side while striking and crippling all the roads of the country. This will continue for months until one of their contestants (most likely the winner of god’s victory Hasan Nasr Iran, Ops, I mean Nasr Allah) is named the winner. Now that is a competition I would pay to watch!
oh wait, my TV gets it for free, never mind.
