New Failaka

This is my second video post for the day. This one is of a video I found on YouTube showing a project thats supposedly going to built on Failaka. It seems they will be turning Failaka into one large resort but the strangest thing is that they will have a large zoo and amusement park on it. Pretty strange since I would rather they fix up the current zoo before having a new one built and entertainment city needs some new rides as well. [YouTube]

  2. buda says:

they should have a caption at the end of the clip that says SYKE ….NOT IN A 1000000000000000000 YEARS.
before doing this dream project they should come and fix the road in front of my house :)

They will mess it up as usual. What I really hate about this master plan is how they will create channels on the island instead of working with the natural landscape and topographical features. I always thought that Failaka should be something by itself with its own airport and seaports for visitors to come directly to the resorts. I was also hoping that the government create a separate group of corporations that belongs to the people through the stock market to develop and operate the island instead of giving the project to group of companies owned by ex omma member.

To go to Failaka you have to get you ticket approved from the Ministry of whatever!

And here is what’s going to happen:

You’ll hand your ticket to a beduin who will look at it and then give it to the beduin right next to him…

Who will stamp it and give it to the beduin right next to him…

Who will take it, scratch his ass a little bit, and then give it to the beduin right next to him…

Who will sign it and just before he gives it to you, another beduin will come and say no, that paper need to be approved by the Minister!

You’ll ask innocently, where can I find him?

He’s on leave, he’ll be back in 2020…

Please do it ! am sick of going to Dubai to see our projects there and paying hell allot of money for 3 days :/

  15. ~LE~ says:

lol.. PURE that was funny.. ;P

i hope they dont diG though the island like that..

looks pretty cool overal..but is failaka that big to fit all of that?

or is very thinG gonna be like tiny.

  16. uturn says:

This is a competition proposal. Its not clear yet whether this is the winning entry by WATG as there was no official announcement. I was part of the second team which had RTKL (the firm that designed 360 mall), we opted for an anti-dubai scheme, very sustainable / green-driven approach for the island. Can’t claim ours is better, obviously I’d have a biased opinions, but I’d like to think so.

Not in a million years?? not really, our plan was designed to have the first phase of the island operational in a couple of years. Since the project is a BOT it is suspended in air like all other BOT projects in Kuwait.

  17. Salbader says:

This Plan contains many good ideas (especially the F1 Track)… but it isnt unique

If this proposal is revised properly we might have a potentially great project that will put Kuwait back on the Map!

Keep in mind Al-Nakheel started out as a circle island

  18. Anonymous says:

Mohammed Hayef will not allow this!

  19. snookie says:

what, woman in shorts allowed? what, no segregated areas?

    ——-

seriously, we shouldn’t take this seriously.. never gonna happen.. well at least until our great grand kids’ grand kids’ lifetime.. maybe.

  20. Mek says:

Oh god no, I hope they don’t fix it up, at least not any time soon. Failaka is a rarity, a piece of dead, desolate suburban Kuwait. In a way, it is beautiful. I recommend anyone with the slightest interest in Urban Exploration to visit it and take lots and lots of photos.

Visiting the place at night, you could forgive all the rumors about yananwa haunting it. Failaka is a real ghost town, and a part of me hopes it stays that way.

  21. jarrah al-failkawy says:

fuck this it makes me feel angry to imagine that there going to turn failaka into that i think its perfect the way it is

  22. Realist says:

The dumbest part is getting there. It is supposed to have a traffic of 40,000 per day, however the only transportation is through a ferry or hydrofoil. Do the math, if those boats carry 500 passengers, it would take 80 trips going and 80 trips back. That’s 160 trips per day !! The funny part is there are no ports in Kuwait that can handle this traffic and never will be. As long as there is no bridge the whole idea is BULLSHIT.

  23. okra says:

Sounds too good to be true :~(

  24. Reality says:

    OK guys
this is obviously a joke. Trying to copy Dubai just for the sake of having something like al Khor?
Go watch a video on Jumeirah International, all the footage used for this video is taken from their presentations. If this project is real, they should invest into more than just a simple 3D animation of the island.
This is just another image to shut people up 90% of the things introduced in this video are illegal in Kuwait, a theater, when performing arts are not allowed, how is that supposed to happen?
And why would i go all the way to failaka to see sharks when i can see them in the scientific center.
Come on guys be a bit more creative, come up with a landmark, something that represents new Kuwait, not a copy of Dubai.
