New restaurants at the Avenues food court

I noticed a ton of new places opened up at the Avenues food court, most of which I hadn’t heard of before, here are their names:

IZ Juice
Shanghai Express
Dondurma
Dippin’ Dots
Santoor
Rice
Sawah
Nolita Pizza
Meias

I think thats pretty cool, finally we have some new fast food places…

santoor sounds indian, dondurama sounds turkish,, meias sounds syrian,,, and shanghai express is of course chinese: here is a comment on the original shanghai express:

yea this food can be good if youre drunk and nowhere else is open but the sauces are like oil and ketchup… seriously there will be a half an inch of oil in the bottom of your eggplant. the eggroll is pretty inedible and the general tsos chicken is kinda soggy *one star*

sorry to disrupt your appetite this first day of Ramadan, but Kuwait has only very very few decent restaurants, let alone junk food joints..

Dondurma is similar to the infamous Syrian ice cream place that basically pounds the ice cream with a huge stick. Sounds weird but I am genuinely excited to try it out.

Dippin Dots is from the States and is an ice cream made into tiny little dots or beads if you will. Again, sounds weird but not bad. Really is just a novelty product though. Much better ice cream to be had elsewhere.

I am a little curious about Rice. Just seems a little strange to have a restaurant based around rice. Guess we’ll see when it opens up.

Dont forget about The Crepe Cafe! We ate there the other day. Awesome food, light and good portion control. I had the Mexican Crepe and would order it again. Don’t go there thinking your going to pack yourself with food. It’s great for a light lunch or dinner.

The slices at Nolita are quite good ( oh and for all of you asking, its a spot in New York called North of Little Italy (get it Nolita ;) )! Really Tasty slice of Pepperoni and the juice at IZ is really refreshing, the combination of fruits they have is excellent because they use really fresh fruit which gives the taste an edge over the other juice bars (the fresher the fruit, the higher the concentration of vitamins and flavors)
    @ TanGo:
this is not the same shanghai express you are writting about, its a whole new, different joint and isnt related to that ketchup oil place!

I was hungry at the beginng of this reply but after re-reading Tango’s am not so hungry!! (maybe should use his post as the anti-hunger remedy!)

  15. Les says:

Nolita (NY Pizza), IZ (Juice) and Dondurma (Turkish ice cream) are open.
Santoor (Indian fast food), Shanghai Express (Chinese – duh) and Meias (Arabic place) are opening soon.

The above are all Alshaya developed brands so they are the first stores (no other branches yet).

Now give them a chance before you start the usual Alshaya bashing :)

  16. OG says:

    dont forget that pretzel place

  17. Oz says:

I gotta chant with ‘mm hmm’ and ‘buda’ here..
TACO BELL! TACO BELL! TACO BELL!
LOL or more like copy n paste.

man i wish they’d open a decent taco place here. I’m salivating now :|

While it’s a good thing newer eateries open from time to time it’s a little sad none of them ever makes the cut for fine dining.
Surely, Kuwait doesn’t have a Michelin star restaurant, right? With the dry state of affairs in the country I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

  19. holla says:

Dondurma sounds disgusting like a medical term Duodenum or some shit.

  27. Fabio says:

They are out side Caribo Cafe & Hagin Daz (sp?). they removed the plastic stickers on the windows , if u go now u could find them on the same side as Carico Cafe.
