Order your iPhone

iphone order

Marzouq was supposed to get me an iPhone with him from the States but he couldn’t buy one from the store without signing up for an AT&T contract. So I decided to order one online from the Apple Store.

Thing is because of all my traveling and shopping these past 3 weeks my credit card is completely maxed out, like KD80 over the limit. I figured let me place an order on the store and see if it works, if it didn’t then it didn’t and if it did great. Surprisingly, it went through. MTC Zain couldn’t charge my last months phone bill to my card cuz it was maxed out yet Apple somehow managed to charge an iPhone!

Anyway for those of you who want to buy an iPhone, Amazon.com don’t sell it but you can purchase the phone directly from the US Apple Store online. For your shipping and billing address fill in your USWS or Aramex address. For your credit card you can use a local card. I personally used my NBK Visa card and it worked. I don’t know if it works with cards from other banks like Gulf Bank, Burgan etc.. but I am guessing they should. Enjoy!

  21. 21. Holla | September 10th, 2007 at 11:36 pm

Dude meshari the worst part is yet to come. Dealing with the fucking customs clearance.

  22. 22. Meshari | September 10th, 2007 at 11:40 pm

well, i think my past order is stuck in Customs, since it was couple of Cd’s and a DVD. with a shirt.

i think i won’t see them anytime soon, but do they still fuck with the electronics?

  23. 23. Meshari | September 10th, 2007 at 11:52 pm

ok, well, i just spent 230 kd, if i will do the clearance my self i know a guy there, or specifically the guy who work for us knows the guys there.

but i think Aramex is the one who watch the shipment. as they watch our samples which we get from Germany.

  24. 24. K.TheKuwaiti | September 11th, 2007 at 12:30 am

Clearance isn’t that bad .. It usually takes an hour if you know the process. I have gotten my things out in 30 minutes (without wasta).

  25. 25. q8vista | September 11th, 2007 at 1:27 am

i wonder if there is any arabization for it soon ?
any news when it will be here in kuwait i apple shops ?

  26. 26. q8vista | September 11th, 2007 at 1:34 am

    from : http://iphone.macworld.com/2007/07/iphone_lacking_unicode_support.php

“Here’s an oddity: Arabic and Hebrew characters don’t render in the iPhone’s web browser. BBC News, for example, offers news in a variety of different languages, including Arabic. However, when you try to view those pages on the iPhone, the Arabic text renders as gibberish. A quick test of other sites in both Arabic and Hebrew showed that the iPhone’s version of Safari doesn’t render either language correctly.

Safari on OS X (and, presumably, on Windows) handles Arabic and Hebrew just fine, and in fact languages with other alphabets do seem to display correctly on the iPhone’s version of Safari: Chinese and Russian, for example. The problem likely lies in the character encodings supported by the iPhone’s browser: indeed, visiting one site which tests Unicode support for browsers showed that Safari on the iPhone does not recognize any characters from Hebrew or Arabic, though it does recognize most characters from other encodings such as Cyrillic and Japanese.

I presume support for other alphabets will materialize in a future software update, and I’d imagine it’d be necessary before the iPhone can be offered for sale in the Middle East, anyway. “

Mark, are you sure visa approved your transaction, make sure apple e-mails you with a confirmation and in one or two days; your tracking info to confirm that you’re transaction went through .. if it did go through and your address in NBK’s files isnt the same as your USWS address, then expect apple to canel your order or NBK to cancel your card as they might think you’re card number has been stolen. let me know what happens with you :) wish you all the best ..

  28. 28. fatfukka | September 11th, 2007 at 7:37 am

yeah I’m with anas on that. I get confirmations on Visa on overseas transactions, then need to confirm later after the retailer has tried processing it.

Anas that has never happened to me. Their are a few sites I buy from where under the billing address there is no option for Kuwait so I just put my US address and the order still goes through. Apple is no exception. My iPhone has shipped.

  31. 31. TwaiF | September 11th, 2007 at 9:16 am

    me 2 :D through USWS

  32. 32. Hamad | September 11th, 2007 at 9:21 am

why dont you wait for the middle east official release.. its on dec. 2007 as i know. so you wont have to stick up with the current version cuz with the hack you wont be able to upgrade or patch any bug.

  33. 33. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 9:25 am

Hamad there is no release date for the iPhone in the middle east or anywhere else in the world. Also when it finally comes out in the middle east, like all the apple products in the region it will most probably be over priced.

  34. 34. Moey | September 11th, 2007 at 10:24 am

    mark, enjoy your phone :)

  35. 35. Hamad | September 11th, 2007 at 11:11 am

I’m talking about the unlock release.. ofcourse you dont have to wait to buy it from any reseller here in kuwait. but just wait for it to be unlocked officially

  36. 36. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 11:59 am

There is no official date for the unlock release version.

  44. 44. Anas | September 11th, 2007 at 7:11 pm

one more thing you guys .. if you want to get the 4GB iphones ($299) instead of the 8GB ones ($399) .. you can find them tucked away on the bottom right corner of the apple online store … for those of you who want to save KD28 and dont mind the less storage space.

  45. 45. Anas | September 11th, 2007 at 7:14 pm

    M.u.D1./.2
maybe you cant use the zain card when you get wataniya to unlock it for you.
i heard wataniya are unlocking iphones for KD50 (some one at icity told me) so maybe if you get wataniya to unlock it for you, you can only use their sim cards ? … just a thought ..

  46. 46. Na9er iLMlaifi | September 11th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

hey mark did u change ur billing address with NBK or is it still a kuwait address because my order just got canceled and i used aramex on both the shipping and billing address ??

  48. 48. Kismat | September 11th, 2007 at 8:50 pm

well my order with aramex was rejected. (I dont have a us bank account)

  49. 49. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 8:50 pm

I doubt thats true. Apple never leaks info like that out.

  50. 50. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 8:51 pm

Kismat most of the people ordering from apple store here in kuwait dont have a us bank account and it works.

  51. 51. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 8:53 pm

F: no i didnt change it. Holla also ordered using gulf bank card and it worked. my sis using nbk visa card also worked.

  52. 52. F | September 11th, 2007 at 9:08 pm

what the… their website says ”
The Apple Store accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards. Apple is unable to accept credit, debit, or check cards issued by banks outside of the United States.”
i will try it again but i doubt its going to work

  53. 53. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 9:13 pm

Yes even though their website says that your local credit card will go through.

  54. 54. Rasheed | September 11th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

I tried ordering the new Touch iPod using my Aramex address and a day later I got an email message from Apple informing me they had canceled my order because they had sniffed out my Aramex address being a mail forwarder’s address, and they said they don’t sell Apple products to people living outside the US. I then just ordered it from Amazon.

  55. 55. Mark | September 11th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Interesting. Well so far the three people I know who have ordered from the Apple Store all used their U Shop We Ship mailboxes. So maybe its the fact that Aramex’s address is giving it away.

Can anyone confirm ordering from Apple using a local credit card and had it shipped to Aramex?

  56. 56. Akbar | September 23rd, 2007 at 4:52 pm

  58. 58. Nabeel | October 19th, 2007 at 2:36 pm

Few Unlock iphones are availabl for sale in Saudi Arabia and it works fine for both Al-Jawal & Mobily. The cost about SR2800.

  59. 59. Ahmed | December 19th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Sorry to burst your bubble Mark, but if you read more closely on the US Apple Store Online on the page where you go to buy the 8GB Iphone it says in small writing that a contract does apply. So sorry to tell you but unless you unlock the phone properly it wont work outside the US and if you do then you still have the required monthly payments to the specific phone company in the US.

  60. 60. Mark | December 19th, 2007 at 6:38 pm

Ahmed of course you need to unlock the iphone, thats common knowledge duh

  61. 61. Ahmed | December 19th, 2007 at 8:56 pm

Ok, but still what about the contract….you are forgetting that……

  62. 62. Mark | December 19th, 2007 at 9:02 pm

No I am not forgetting that. There is no contract. The contract is only if you are not planning on unlocking your phone and are planning to use AT&T.
