Partnership

I just got a phonecall from a creative director I used to work with. He is opening his own advertising agency here in Kuwait and he wants me to join him and help him build a team. In return I would get the same salary I am currently making and he will also make me a partner and give me 10% of the company and its earnings. He already has a major client waiting for us plus he has a deal with an international agecy. If that wasn’t enough, he wants nat and rampurple to join us.

All this and I think I will have to reject the offer. I am a very safe person. By that I mean I don’t take risks. I like routine and I like job security. I am also currently very happy with what I am doing. Ofcourse not everyday is a good day, there are ups and downs, but in general I am having fun where I am now. I am gonna meet with the guy tonight and get more details, I am wondering though if for once in my life I should just take the plunge and go for it..

change can be good. i don’t know about nat though, what happens if this goes sour and you’re both out of jobs?

Both of you working together in the same firm has the potential to be problematic.

    1) Relationship tensions can arise
    2) If the company goes bust, then both of you are out of jobs
    3) Conflicts of interest can arise

With regards to working for a startup, why dont you offer your consulting services instead? Tell him you either want just 5% and will provide 5 hours a week to oversee hiring the right people, giving your thoughts on projects etc.

Or, tell him you would like to see how things fair out for the startup, tell him to get back to you in 6 months.

Alot of people try to start businesses here, and many fail. It comes down to people and if you dont have the right type, then you’re not going anywhere fast. What’s more, how many more marketing firms do we really need? most of them suck anyways!! Marketing and Advertising here is poor compared to West and even Dubai….

    I say be careful :)

lol thats funny… for me to accept such a thing i need double the salary i get now… and in my opinion if u, i and nat were to work together we could simply open up our own agency…. what does this guy have to offer? what would he do? i think u, me and nat would make a gr8 team if we work things out right… so the guy would be extremely lucky u know

I wouldnt take a risk like this and put nataly would me. one of us would still have to have a secure job.

and you i told him i would doubt you would want to join since you just started a new job and you are also happy.

will see what he has in mind, wasn’t able to meet up with him yesterday, maybe tonight.
