Post Gulf War Photos

I found a video online of photos of Kuwait taken right after the Gulf War so I emailed the owner of the video asking him if he could send me the pictures to post and he did. This is the description that was attached to the video:

We were sent to Kuwait in May 1991 to rebuild the Kuwait International Hotel for an upcoming conference. The project was canceled soon after we got to Kuwait due to security concerns. Kuwait City at this time, just a few months after the first gulf war, was in shambles. Almost nothing worked and there were vast amounts of arms still lying around. The fires were still going strong. So much so that flying into Kuwait was like entering an outer circle of hell.

This was the plan: If Kuwait is not be “Southern Iraq”, then it should be an abandoned piece of land.

what the hell did they ever acheive from all the destruction, looting and killing? Absolutely NOTHING!

It is a damn shame that a lot of people don’t know about this and forget what happened.

I have a lot of pictures i took from when i came back in 1991 but they’re all in Lebanon. I should bring them and scan them. I wonder if I have pictures of Salmiya from back in the 80s since thats what I really can’t find.

any expat who feels he/she is being mistreated is free to leave…and what r u sighing about, r u “longing” to the days of the gulfwar?? r u saying the days of the gulfwar were “good days” ?? if so, then u obviously have not lost a relative or a friend during the iraqi invasion and u dont know what the hell ur talkin about

  20. rhinobone says:

yeah yeah yeah gtfo – heard it all before – yawn! obviously you dont know your facts when you say ‘any expat…obviously…free to leave.’

  21. TweeZ says:

Wallah ya Spartan some people have never tasted or experienced the horrors of the Iraqi invasion in 1990. They don’t know what they are talking about….6ofayleyeen!
I am sure that if some of the people that think the invasion was nothing or a mere 7-month occupation have absolutely not been here during those times and I sure that their opinions would be different if they have.

    @ kuwaitmirage
    plz share your pic, thanks

  22. Q8GEEK says:

    rhinobone:
then they shouldn’t have came to kuwait in first place…

  23. kuwaitmirage says:

I’m sorry folks I can’t find it just now. It sometimes gets stored away in the ‘trash’ and reappears. It was taken on an early morning between 6-10th August when we awoke to find the Iraqis had encamped around our buildings in Mahboula, built a chicane and raided the little bacala…..you can barely see the buildings now (Texas Towers I think they were called then ) as they are surrounded by other buildings. Back then, I had a view of the Gulf!!!!

  24. Spartan says:

mark…i didnt use profanity so why didnt u publish my reply to rhinobone?
do i have to be an expat for u to allow me to post my opinion?? if it helps, my mom is lebanese…no? :P

  25. Spartan says:

rhinobone…the gist of what i said in my reply that wasnt published: is stop being a whiner and do something about it, no one is chaining u to this country that ur uncomfortable in…just go back to ur country or any other country that will treat u like royalty…otherwise u will live and die the same as u r right now: A WHINER

  26. Exile says:

Spartan. I was there for all the invasion period. Yes, there was injustices done by Iraqi “soldiers” to not only Kuwaitis but also expats. And please stop using the ‘if you don’t like it get out’ line every time someone is critical of your country. Free dialogue ultimately means there will be differences of opinion. Kuwait changed after the invasion, it’s a fact that any “Arab” expat, mature enough to have witnessed the before and after will tell you.

  27. Spartan says:

Exile…”injustice”?? thats putting it mildly…and for your information, the “injusttice” was committed not only by iraqi soldiers..some expats joined in on the fun…i dont wanna name nationalities out of respect to those who were honorable and stood by their kuwaiti brothers even during the invasion…
And since u r a big supporter of dialogue and differences of opinions, then allow me to exercise my right of having my own opinion in the matter, and it is summarized simply as: “if u dont like kuwait, LEAVE..and go somewhere else where ull be more comfortable”…
yes, kuwait HAS changed, i agree…but that doesnt give someone the right to practically wish for the days of the invasion to come back..
any idiot who wishes for the days of the invasion to return is a partner in the iraqi’s crime against kuwait…and i hope they all burn in hell together happily ever after
