If i were Sultan wanting to sell to a bunch of people who rip art of the internet (music,shows,movies,games) then i would do the same since they should technically have no ethic on this matter.

Mark,I agree with you on this issue.
Sultan did steal the logo…that is obvious.
I also agree that a large corporation like Sultan should uphold business ethics even though they are not enforced in Kuwait.

But I have a thorn to pick with you Mark…Isn’t downloading movies and series also a form of stealing copyrighted material…why the double standards then? I think you should stop downloading movies illegally, or at least do not say on your BLOG you downloaded movies, keep it to yourself.

I think what you said is true with regards to Sultan Center copyright infringement. Even if the government has no control or enforcement of copyrights, you still have consumers that are intelligent enough to know it is an infringement. This not only reflects negatively on the product, but the whole organization as a whole. In times where independent new brands have a path for growth, a company like Sultan Center should create its own identifiable brand.

Its as simple as this… Marketing branding seek to create the expectations behind the image! They create a brand that associates with their product, thus making it unique and special. So clearly branding is very important in advertising their OWN products to distinguish it from other competitors… Sultan Center took the short cut here! Its Marketing 101 ;-)

True. Sultan Center shouldn’t need the government to tell them that, but apparently they do. So unless the government interferes, expect more product rip-offs and copies wherever you go.

Dude, now your starting to split products in Kuwait. If Kuwait shall enforce the copyright law - which it should - then every thing should follow the law, or else they wouldn’t have done anything. All i’m saying is that unless the government takes action, nothing will change in Kuwait. And if they decide to force the law on big companies and important products and leave the others, then its best for the government not to take any action.

yes i totally agree, the copyright law is not enforced in Kuwait, but that doesn’t mean a large local chain like Sultan Center shouldn’t follow it. If this cornflakes was a chinese import being sold at a local bakala i wouldn’t care less but Sultan Center is a Kuwaiti business achievement and this cornflakes box has their name on it so thats why it matters.

I agree with all you’ve said Mark, and it’s true. But let me bring you back to reality: Do you think the law will be followed in Kuwait? Take for example the “ba6ree8″ restaurant. All they did was flip Mcdonald’s “M” 90 degress and extended the edges to get the letter “B”. I agree that that might not coincide with the law, but that doesn’t mean that Kuwaiti restaurants, brands, or even Cornflakes providers will follow the law.
