Shawerma Review: Happy Duck

happy duck

A friend recommended I try shawerma from a place in Salmiya called Happy Duck. At first I was hesitant but then I thought to myself, what if this back alley place with a stupid name turns out to have really good shawermas? I decided not to discriminate and give the place a shot.

I passed by the place late in the evening, it wasn’t too hard to find, I just took the exit on the Gulf Road right before were Crepaway (now called Divas) used to be located. The location wasn’t bad, they had ample parking space and no traffic around them. I went down, ordered two shawermas and a coke, came back to the car and started eating them.

My first impression was that the shawerma was really greasy. I munched away and went through the first shawerma without encountering anything out of the ordinary but when I hit the second sandwich something tasted really weird. Kinda like the chicken was under cooked or something which grossed me out so I threw it awat. I didn’t like their shawerma at all.

The price of their shawerma is 250 fils which competes with my two favorite shawerma places at the moment, Badar Al Badoor and Al Ghader, but Happy Duck is not even in the same league as them. Final score is a 1.5 out of 5.

For best Shawerma in Kuwait go to Villa Fairouz Express on Baghdad St. It is the only place in Kuwait that I have tried that has good shawerma like the ones you get in Lebanon.
Sandwich is for 750 fils, but it is awesome! Both Chiecken & Meat are wonderful.

Don’t trust any place that sells shawarma, at the end we’re consuming meat and chicken, two ingredients that could be easily infected.

Well would suggest to give a try at Turkish Grill next to Rumaithiya Co-op, there meat shawerma is excellent but do ask them to put more of tahina, the best part is the meat doesn’t stink.

Dude, I usually agree with your reviews, but Badr Al-Budoor just SUCKS! Here are my top shawerma joints (in order) :

1-Kanari, located in Hawalli. 10/10 for both lamb and chicken shawerma.

2-Dhahya co-op cafeteria. 9.5/10 for lamb shawerma, chicken wasn’t too good.

3-Al-Ghadeer, located in Bnaid Al-Gar. 9/10 lamb shawerma, chicken wasn’t too good.

4-Nawwara, located in Salmiya. 9/10 chicken shawerma, lamb wasn’t too good.

Give the above a try and review them if you can.

Bader Al Badoor are one of the best dude. Maybe you had a bad experience with the meat shawerma which I ahvent tried before but the chicken is just delicious!

Yeah, that’s true. I’m usually all about the meat shawerma :D. I only occasionally have chicken. Badr Al-Budoor’s meat shawerma had freakin bones in it! But do try Kanari and Dhahya co-op. But take heed, dhahya co-op put very little meat in their shawerma, but that’s why they have a “double meat” option.

This business of reviewing Shawermas is ridiculous,, Its not like you are reviewing canard à l’orange, foie gras or a Crusty Wild Mushroom Bake.

For all you know, we might be eating chicken_with_dehydrated_salmonella_properly_zapped! Most probably the chicks may be infected imports from Bombay, Lahore or Brazil!

Please review some ‘proper dishes’ for a change and make it a little professional.

I’m currently living near this exact Happy Duck…and I love their shawarmas ;) not as good as home-made, but they satisfy and the price isn’t so bad.
